Doolittle (oblique) underwent an MRI on Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Doolittle hasn't shown much improvement from the cramping in his oblique a night earlier, so the Athletics will examine him more closely to see if he's dealing with an intercostal strain. If the MRI indeed reveals a serious oblique injury that results in a DL stay, manager Bob Melvin said he would decide on a fill-in closer rather than using a committee. Luke Gregerson would seem to be the top candidate to take his spot at the back of the Oakland bullpen.
