Verlander was diagnosed Tuesday with inflammation in multiple places in his right shoulder, Chris Iott of MLive.com reports. Speaking to Jason Beck of MLB.com, manager Brad Ausmus said, "There was no major structural damage. At this point, we don't expect him to go on the DL." Although Verlander will miss one start, at least, that sound you hear is a sigh of relief from his owners. An organization's expectations are always subject to change, but his next nod will ultimately be determined by how his body reacts to extended rest. In the meantime, Robbie Ray figures to handle Verlander's spot in the rotation, if the latter is unable to go Sunday against the Mariners.
