Chris Carpenter (shoulder) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over 2 2/3 innings Monday in his first rehab start with Double-A Springfield. The good news is that he struck out five and reportedly touched 95 mph on the radar gun. Of course, the Cardinals' main concern is how Carpenter feels, and it appears that he made it through the outing with no physical issues. The veteran right-hander could rejoin the Cards' rotation later this month if all goes well.
