According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the Dodgers pursued Alex Gonzalez this offseason to play third base, before he eventually signed with the Brewers. The idea would have been for Gonzalez to play some third base, and to "push" shortstop Hanley Ramirez. This could mean that the Dodgers aren't entirely confident that Luis Cruz can handle the hot corner for the entire season.
