Rangers designated C Luis Martinez for assignment. Martinez was cleared to make room for the newly-signed A.J. Pierzynski on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old backstop appeared in 10 games with the Rangers this past season, but spent the majority of the year at Triple-A Round Rock.
