Yankees designated LHP Josh Spence for assignment. The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Kevin Youkilis. Spence, who was claimed off waivers from the Padres last month, struggled in 2012 but pitched well for San Diego in 2011.
