Rodriguez will work at first base during spring training. Rodriguez will enter spring training without a clearly defined role with the team, as the Yankees re-signed Chase Headley over the offseason as their everyday third baseman. He'll most likely compete with Garrett Jones for DH at bats, but the team will also look at him as a possibility to backup Mark Teixeira at first. With Teixeira's injury history, or just on scheduled days off, it's possible Rodriguez will see some playing time there during the regular season, but GM Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi have made it clear that he'll have to earn whatever role he ends up taking in the spring.
