Cashner gave up two runs over four hits and a walk and struck out seven in eight innings Saturday to pick up the win against the Giants. Cashner was brilliant heading into the ninth, having shut out the Giants over eight innings while allowing only two hits. He had also retired 15 straight batters. However, in the ninth, he gave up a solo homer to Hunter Pence then a single to Joe Panik before being pulled. The Padres managed to hold the lead and pull out the victory. In the month of September, Cashner (3-1) has a 1.74 ERA and a 21:4 K:BB ratio.
