Stanton (head) will not play again this season, Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Stanton was subjected to additional testing after having his stitches removed Tuesday, and it seems those tests did not yield positive results, as the team went ahead and formally ruled the 24-year-old out for the remainder of the 2014 campaign. Widely considered among the frontrunners for the NL MVP at the time of his injury, Stanton hit .288/.395/.555 with 37 homers and 105 RBI in 145 games this season. He also swiped a career-high 13 bags, and will likely be one of the top five players off the board in all leagues next year.
