Smyly will be shut down for the remainder of the season, the Tampa Tribune's R. Mooney reports. This shouldn't come as a big surprise, as he has logged 153 innings this season, and the Rays had previously stated that he would be limited to 150-160 innings. He'll enter 2014 with a firm hold on a spot in the Rays' starting rotation, after posting a 3.24 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP between Detroit and Tampa Bay this season. He also posted an impressive 133:42 K:BB ratio in his 153 innings, so while he may never have above average strikeout potential, he won't be a non-factor in the category, and should have no problem maintaining a strong WHIP. The Rays have yet to announce who will replace him in the starting rotation for the remainder of the 2014 season.
