Chargers coach Norv Turner explained Friday that Ryan Mathews' role was limited in Thursday night's loss to the Raiders because he was dealing with "some lingering pains" in his previously strained groin. Turner attributed Mathews' 21 snaps and nine touches to the injury as well as the Chargers' superior trust in Mike Tolbert during comeback-type situations. It doesn't sound like he experienced any setbacks, but Mathews will now get five days to fully rest the groin before San Diego returns to practice next Wednesday. It will be ten days before the Chargers' next game. They'll face an up-and-down Bears run defense in Week 11.

Turner is the problem. Not matthews

Agreed 100%! Let the kid get into the flow of a game once and I guarantee he'll tear it up. He's got more chance of getting hurt when he plays 2 plays then sits for 3 & cools down then goes back in for 2 & so on. They're obviously not winning with Tolbert & Mathews was on the field when they scored all their points last night but still sat for the majority of the 2nd half. Tolbert should go in for a few plays every other series, which is when he's most effective anyhow. And whoever says Mathews can't pick up the blitz or pass block must not have seen him take one of the Raiders up in the air & then flat on their back last night. Let the damn kid play an entire game, run the ball and watch your team start winning Norvie.

I feel your pain brother. I also started Mathews. The problem is that Tolbert is better in pass protection. And in comeback mode (aka last night) you need someone who can pass protect 'cause your gonna be passing ALOT. Also consider the state of San Diego's offensive line injuries and you begin to understand why Tolbert was in the game so much...

Don't disagree EFX - BUT Norv the Nerd could've comeback easily in that game through the Run and not the pass - Didn't need 40 yd chunks just needed sustained drives - Coaches act like 14pts is a big deal - some of the best comebacks this season have been because teams have stuck with the run...Don't like the Bears match up this week though....Brees/Turner/Kasey all on byes - Maclin/Austin/Ford all injured...Damn damn damn....

Boy Commish, you've got some serious issues this week! Keep the faith brother!
