Alex Smith tied a career-high with three touchdown passes in the Niners' 48-3 shellacking of the Bucs in Week 5, completing 11-of-19 passes for 170 yards and no interceptions. Smith entered today eighth in the league in QB rating, and after his 127.2 mark today he'll climb even higher. He is completing 65.9% of his passes with a 7.65 yards per attempt mark that ranks middle of the pack, but most impressive is his 7:1 TD-to-INT ratio. Those evaluating Smith solely on his past may want to take another look, as worst-case scenario coaching has given way to a suddenly competent Jim Harbaugh attack. Making very few mistakes and shedding the game-manager label a little bit every week, he's marching up the QB2 rankings.
