Kostityn signed a contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod on Monday, Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo! Sports reports. Kostityn will join his older brother Andrei, who also signed with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod this offseason. A return to the NHL for Sergei is growing less and less likely with each passing season.

Sergei Kostitsyn inked a three-year deal in the KHL with Avangard Omsk, according to Sovetsky Sport's Genadi Boguslavski. No surprise here, as reports swirled about this happening for weeks and Kostitsyn's contract with the Predators was terminated Friday evening. The winger saw his production dip last season, to three goals and 12 assists in 46 games.

The Nashville Predators have terminated Sergei Kostitsyn's contract. Kostitsyn is presumably leaving the Predators to play in the KHL. He had three goals and 15 points in 46 games last season.

The Nashville Predators placed Sergei Kostitsyn on unconditional waivers Wednesday. Normally, this would be the first step in a compliance buyout, but TSN's Bob McKenzie notes it can also be used when both player and team have mutually agreed to terminate a contract. Kostitsyn is in talks with Avangard Omsk of the KHL and his agent told The Tennessean earlier there's a "good chance" Kostitsyn ends up in the Russian league. Stay tuned.

Sergei Kostitsyn is still in talks with Avangard Omsk of the KHL. If he is able to come to terms to play in Russia then Nashville has agreed to loan his rights. The Predators won't have to pay Kostitsyn his $3 million salary, but they will still be responsible for his salary cap hit.

Updating a previous item, according to reports out of Russia, Sergei Kostitsyn has signed on to play with Avangard Omsk of the KHL. He produced just three goals and 15 points in 46 games during the lockout-shortened season and it appears as though he completely fell out of favor in Nashville. The Predators approved of him talking to KHL teams despite having one year left on his NHL contract and said they wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to play overseas.

It sounds like the Nashville Predators are prepared to move on without Sergei Kostitsyn. The Predators won't stand in Kostitsyn's way if he decides to play in Russia next season. GM David Poile isn't sure how the situation will work out, but it doesn't sound like he would broken up about it if Kostitsyn left. "I just want to be a hardworking team that's hard to play against, and we need to play to our potential," Poile said. "With Sergei, three goals ... we're not going to win anything if a guy on your first line scores three goals. That's unacceptable." Nashville is prepared to loan Kostitsyn to a KHL club and be responsible for his $3 million salary cap hit but not for his salary. If he can't get a job in Russia for whatever reason then it could be an awkward situation in Nashville during the final year of his contract.

Nashville Predators GM David Poile says Sergei Kostitsyn is exploring his options in the KHL. Poile said Kostitsyn, who is still under contract with Nashville, would be on loan to a KHL club if that was the option the Russian-born winger chose. It's unclear if Kostitsyn would count against the Predators' salary cap if he left for Russia, but the team should have plenty of room under the lowered cap regardless of Kostitsyn's decision.

Sergei Kostitsyn might not count against the cap if he signs in the KHL. Although teams can no longer escape a player's cap hit by burying him in the minors, suspended players don't count against the cap. If Kostitsyn signs in the KHL while he's still under contract with the Nashville Predators, the team might be able to go that route. That might actually be the Predators' preference as the GM of the KHL's KHL's Avangard Omsk suggested that Predators GM David Poile would be fine with Kostitsyn signing elsewhere. That being said, Nashville isn't hurting for cap space.

The KHL's Avangard Omsk has reportedly offered a contract to Sergei Kostitsyn, who is still under contract with Nashville. The Avangard's GM claims that he's talked with Predators GM David Poile, who is reportedly okay with Kostitsyn leaving for the KHL. Predators coach Barry Trotz criticized Kostitsyn's lack of offensive production in 2013. His brother Andrei Kostitsyn, played in the KHL in 2012-13 after a brief stint with the Nashville Predators.
