Kesler (hip) still has a return date around Christmas, although GM Bob Murray is hoping it can be sooner.

EDGE Analysis

Murray may want Kesler back before Christmas, but the fact he's saying things like "He's skating much harder now. He's had to learn his stride all over again, to be quite honest," is not encouraging. It was just announced that Ryan Getzlaf is going to be out up to two months after having surgery on his cheekbone. That means the Ducks are going to be without their top two centers for over a month, which is destined to hurt their offense.

Kesler (hip) could be sidelined until Christmas as his recovery seems to be taking longer than planned, Helene Elliott of the LA Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

Without Kesler, the Ducks' depth down the middle of the lineup will be strained as Antoine Vermette figures to slot into a second-line role. The 33-year-old Kesler is coming off back-to-back 50-plus point campaigns with a third consecutive such season a seeming impossibility given the length of his expected absence.

Kesler (hip) told NHL.com Wednesday that his recovery from surgery could take 4-to-5 months. It was originally estimated that he'd only be out 12 weeks.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran center underwent surgery earlier this month for an issue with bone fragments in his hip that hindered him for the entirety of the season. "Toward the end of the year, I couldn't get through a game without getting pain shots," Kesler said. "Everybody plays banged up. I couldn't continue going on like that." He will reportedly be able to resume skating in 12 weeks, which is right around the start of training camp in September, while his updated return timetable has him slated for game action in October or November.

Kesler underwent hip surgery last week to clear bone fragments, Helene Elliott of the LA Times reports, adding that the veteran pivot will require 12 weeks before resuming "full activity."

EDGE Analysis

The 2011 Selke Trophy winner played in 99 games -- including each playoff contest -- this past season. He averaged a whopping 22:26 of ice time in the conference finals versus the Predators, but struggled mightily with a lone assist and a minus-6 rating standing as his series output. Kesler should be ready to ramp up his activity in September.

Kesler scored his first goal of the postseason in Sunday's Game 3 victory over the Oilers.

EDGE Analysis

Kesler has come to play in the second round, recording points in three straight games to open the series. His goal Sunday came after he went to the front of the net and pounced on a rebound in front. He hasn't been shooting much this postseason, but Kesler is rolling right now and should get a boost from this first goal. The Ducks will need Kesler at his best if they hope to comeback and win this series.

Kesler collected two assists -- one with the man advantage -- during Wednesday's Game 1 loss to Edmonton.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran pivot spent 10:58 of his 21:09 of ice time matched up against Connor McDavid in Game 1, and Kesler limited McDavid to a single power-play assist. Kesler will need to continue playing a 200-foot game for the Ducks to succeed. He had just a single assist through four games in Round 1, so his multi-assist showing Wednesday was a welcomed offensive boost.

Kesler racked up three assists in Sunday's win over the Flames.

EDGE Analysis

Kesler is having a fantastic season and could reach the 60-point mark if he keeps it going in the final three regular-season games. The second-line center has been dynamite alongside Jakob Silfverberg and will be a popular selection in playoff drafts. Kesler's 69 PIM and 21 goals make him a lethal fantasy option worth owning in almost all formats. Look for the two-way center to finish the season strong and turn it up even more in the playoffs.

Kesler netted his 21st goal of the season and added a helper in Sunday's win over the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

Kesler had gone quiet of late, managing just one assist in his previous five games. The second-line center has put up back-to-back 20-goal, 50-plus point seasons and is a reliable fantasy play whenever the Ducks are in action. With Anaheim rolling and the playoffs around the corner, Kesler is one to watch, as he always knows when to turn on the intensity.

Kesler scored his 20th goal of the season and added two helpers in Sunday's win over Washington.

EDGE Analysis

They were the first points in five games for Kesler, who reaches the 50-point mark for the second consecutive season. The second-line center remains a valuable well-rounded fantasy option due to his goal-scoring ability, power-play production and 61 PIM. The Ducks are in the playoff hunt right now, so look for Kesler to be a key asset down the stretch, as the 32-year-old seems to be at his best when it matters most.

Kesler picked up an assist and dropped Jeff Carter with one punch in a second-period fight in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Kings.

EDGE Analysis

The long looping hook landed right on Carter's chin and the Kings sniper dropped to his knee. The fight continued briefly when Carter got back up, but linesmen stepped in quickly. Kesler is having his best season since his heydays in Vancouver and he's putting up points and hits. Just beware his above-average shooting percentage -- there's always a chance his offense slows a little.
