The Buffalo Sabres have placed Rostislav Klesla on unconditional waivers. Klesla already announced his retirement from the NHL, so this move isn't surprising. Buffalo acquired Klesla from Washington as part of the Jaroslav Halak trade, but the 32-year-old forward decided that he didn't want to play for the league's worst team. He is planning to continue his career in Europe.

Rostislav Klesla has decided to retire from the NHL. Klesla was sent from the Capitals to the Sabres in the Jaroslav Halak deal, but never played for either team. Klesla, 31, had 159 points, a minus-46 rating and 620 penalty minutes in 659 NHL games, most of which was spent with the Blue Jackets and the last three-plus seasons with the Coyotes. "With all due respect to the Sabres organization, I decided this week not to continue playing hockey this season. It has been a tough year for injury and moving several times to new teams. I will now take some time off. and get ready to continue my career in Europe. I would like to thank my fans and all the people that have helped me. I am grateful for the career I have had in the NHL and all the people that I have met along the way who have supported me and my family."

The Phoenix Coyotes have once again sent Rostislav Klesla to the minors. Klesla cleared waivers on Wednesday and was subsequently sent to the minors. Phoenix recalled him on Friday, but that was apparently so he could attend to a personal matter.

On Tuesday, with the team unhappy with his play, Coyotes defenseman Rusty Klesla was placed on waivers. On Wednesday, he cleared the waiver process and was assigned to the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Portland, Maine, with the Coyotes calling up forward Chris Brown and defenseman Connor Murphy. On Friday, Klesla was back in a Coyotes uniform, recalled from the AHL as the team sent Brown back down, and practiced with the Coyotes. He never stepped foot in Portland. But Klesla's stay won't likely be a long one. The 31-year-old, who declined to speak with the media Friday, might find himself back in the AHL sooner than later. Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said Klesla was taking care of personal issues Friday and that the team expects to send him to Portland - this time, with Klesla actually stepping foot on a plane - again. "I think the plan is still for him to go down and play some games in Portland, and we'll see where it goes from there," Tippett said.

Rostislav Klesla has been called up by the Phoenix Coyotes. Just days after Klesla cleared waivers and was sent to the minors, the Coyotes have decided to give him another chance. He doesn't do enough offensively to warrant owning in standard leagues.
