Stastny retired Tuesday after 17 NHL seasons, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

The 37-year-old Stastny produced 293 goals and 822 points across 1,145 regular-season contests for Colorado, St. Louis, Winnipeg, Vegas and Carolina. He also accounted for 30 goals and 73 points in 118 career playoff games.

Stastny provided a goal in Carolina's 4-3 loss to Florida in Game 4 on Wednesday.

Stastny had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over the Canadiens on Saturday.

He deflected Brent Burns' point shot past Sam Montembeault stick side at the mid-point of the second to push the Canes up 2-0. Stastny snapped a six-game point drought Saturday. The 37-year-old is in the twilight of his career -- he has just nine goals and 21 points in 68 games, and sees limited ice time (10-12 minutes). Stastny won't help fantasy players in postseason formats, but his experience will be invaluable as the Canes make a run for the Cup.

Stastny did not suit up for Friday's 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs, marking the second straight game he's served as a healthy scratch.

EDGE Analysis

Stastny had just two points in his last 10 games prior to the benching, and he had been skating on the Canes' fourth line. He'll likely make his way back into the lineup at some point, but at 36 years old, he's clearly not the player he once was, and his fantasy value is now about as close to zero as it can get.

He also entered the game averaging just 12:45 of ice time this season and unless his role grows, it's unlikely that Stastny will make regular offensive contributions.

Stastny contributed a goal in a 5-3 loss to Nashville on Thursday.

Stastny entered the game averaging just 12:36 of ice time this season, and 37-year-old isn't likely to be a regular offensive contributor unless his role with the team grows.
