Marleau moved to center for Wednesday's game because Auston Matthews was scratched and delivered a goal in 14:33.

EDGE Analysis

Yes, he can play center, but no, it's not ideal at this point in his career. Marleau has delivered 11 points in 17 games this season, but could see depressed output with the increased workload that comes at center.

Marleau scored a goal and added an assist in a 3-1 win over the Ducks on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

The 38-year-old's exodus from San Jose has gone well thus far, as he has five goals and four assists through 13 games. That's impressive given his age, but he did score 27 goals last season.

Marleau stepped into the role of second-line center for the third period of Monday's game in San Jose when coach Mike Babcock benched Tyler Bozak.

EDGE Analysis

Marleau is versatile, but we think he's better on the wing at this point in his career. Keep an eye on this. His production might slip short term is Babcock keeps Bozak in the doghouse.

Marleau is set to play in his 1,500th career NHL game, when the Maple Leafs play host to the Red Wings on Tuesday night.

EDGE Analysis

All but six of those games took place with the Sharks before the prolific winger signed with Toronto's hockey club in July. According to NHL.com, he'll become the 18th player in league history to have reached that milestone, which speaks volumes about Mareleau's conditioning and dedication to the game. The Saskatchewan native has already registered five points (three goals, two helpers) with the leaf emblazoned on his sweater.

Marleau scored his third goal of the season in Saturday's overtime win

EDGE Analysis

The play was reviewed, but ultimately stood with the goal call on the ice. Marleau has five points in five games and is off to a fantastic start in blue and white. His chemistry with Nazem Kadri and Leo Komarov is starting to come together, which makes Marleau a desirable fantasy target.

Nice debut. Marleau looked completely comfortable in blue and white, and it showed on the score sheet. He now has 510 goals and 1,084 points in 1,495 games and looks every bit a difference maker in his new uniform.

Marleau has been skating with Nazem Kadri and Leo Komarov in the preseason, but Leafs' coach Mike Babcock is not impressed with the trio, reports the Toronto Sun.

EDGE Analysis

"That line has to be better," said Babs on Thursday. "That group can be way better, way quicker. That group has to find some chemistry and get going." Marleau and Kadri have been working hard to understand how to read each other and it has been a work in progress. Marleau likes space once he gets the puck in the corners and along the wall, so Kadri needs to back off, rather than get close in support. That's a shift away from what would be more standard for centermen. The trio will be kept together to start the season, but there is always a chance we'll see an experiment with Marleau beside Auston Matthews some day early in the season.

Marleau scored his first goal with Toronto in a 5-2 preseason loss to Ottawa on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

The goal was classic Marleau, using his hockey sense to jump on a puck traveling down the boards in the neutral zone to spring him for a partial breakaway, before ripping one short-side, under-the-bar. The play had to be an encouraging sight for the Leafs and their fans, as the 508-goal, 1,082-point man recently turned 38. Another positive to take away from the game was the fact that Marleau played over 17:30 minutes, including 5:39 with the man advantage.

Marleau's linemates have not been pre-determined by coach Mike Babcock, reports theToronto Sun.

EDGE Analysis

Babcock was asked about Marleau's linemates at Thursday's state of the union conversation with the Toronto media. "He's a good player, a good man, he can play with anyone," said Babs. "When we talked, I said, 'I don't have a clue who you are playing with, whether it's with (Nazem Kadri), (Auston Matthews) or (Tyler Bozak). They're all good. We'll figure that out over time.'" Marleau can skate well enough to play with Matthews and would be a nice two-way complement to Kadri. Either way, he's going to get opportunities to produce offense and a guaranteed role on the power play. Win-win for fantasy owners seeking depth.
