Green (illness) was put on injured reserve Monday.
EDGE Analysis
It was already established that Green would miss the start of the season with a strange virus in his liver, but the placement on injured reserve clarifies the situation a bit. Detroit isn't looking to contend this year, so there is no reason for them to try and hurry the 32-year-old back into action. There is no way to set a reasonable timetable for his return without some pretty specific medical knowledge that we simply don't have.

Green (illness) will miss the start of the regular season, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Battling a liver-attacking virus, the Red Wings have yet to pinpoint a timetable for his return, which isn't surprising given the nature of the bug. The veteran blueliner has reportedly made some positive strides forward recently, so it's possible he won't wind up missing too much time to begin the campaign because of it. Regardless, Detroit could bring an extremely young blueline crew to the rink Opening Night with Danny Dekeyser (upper body), Trevor Daley (lower body) and Jonathan Ericsson (upper body) all questionable for Opening Night.

Green (illness) remains without a timetable for his return, though he is feeling better, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports, citing Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill.
EDGE Analysis
According to St. James, Green rode a (stationary) bike Tuesday, and early indications point to the veteran making progress in his recovery from a virus that's been attacking his liver and causing him to feel fatigued. Still, it wouldn't be surprising if the club ends up adding extra depth on the blue line in case Green gets a late start to the new season. Robbie Russo was waived by the Coyotes on Tuesday, so there's a chance that he could reunite with the Original Six club.

Green has been diagnosed with a virus that is attacking his liver and causing fatigue, Dana Wakiji of the Red Wings' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Green will meet with an infectious-disease specialist to determine his next course of action, but at this point his status for Detroit's Oct. 4 season opener against Columbus is in serious jeopardy. Until more is known, fantasy owners who are considering drafting the veteran blueliner shouldn't count on him being available for the start of the campaign. A more clear-cut timetable for Green's recovery should be established after his appointment with the specialist.

Green (neck) is expected to miss the start of the season due to fatigue, which may stem from a virus of some kind, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Green had surgery on his neck, but there had been nothing but positive reports in that regard throughout the summer. This latest issue is a bit of a head scratcher since a 13-year-old vet likely knows a thing or two about how to avoid fatigue, especially so early in training camp, though Green having a malady of some sort does seem like the most conceivable explanation at this point in time. Detroit simply cannot afford Green to be out long, as he's one of its lone offensive threats from the blue line and is fresh off a 33-point output from 2017-18.

Green said he is healthy following neck surgery, but the veteran defenseman still needs to be cleared for contact, Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Green went as far say saying there's a "night and day (difference)" with his neck, but the Red Wings will want to make sure that's the case before putting him into games. He'll be monitored closely when training camp practice gets underway next Friday. As it stands now, Green is expected to be ready for Opening Night against the Blue Jackets on Oct. 4.

Green is progressing well following neck surgery, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. "Everything has gone beyond what expected," said the defenseman. "I'm training full throttle and feel great."
EDGE Analysis
Green renewed his contract with the Red Wings for two years and $10.75 million, as relayed from CBC.ca on Saturday. With further consideration to this latest report, it's becoming easier to project the type of season that Green should have in 2018-19. So far, Detroit hasn't made any wholesale changes on its blue line through the draft and opening of the free-agency signing period, so we can likely expect the Alberta native to continue hovering around a 0.5 points per-pace-game pace.

Green (neck) has agreed to a two-year, $10.75 million contract extension with the Red Wings, CBC.ca reports, citing an anonymous source.
EDGE Analysis
The original source was not disclosed because the deal has not officially been announced. Still, the relaying media company is credible, so there's reason to believe the contract terms are accurate. Green earned $6 million annually over the life of a three-year deal that he procured with Detroit in July of 2015. Easily Detroit's best offensive from the blue line, Green fashioned eight goals and 25 assists over 66 games last season, but one-third of that total came in the first month. The Wings could be all-in on blue-line prospects such as Libor Sulak, Filip Hronek, and Dennis Cholowski by the time Green exhausts this latest contract.

EDGE Analysis
Details of the contract length are pending, but it comes with an average annual value of $5.375 million, according to the SiriusXM NHL Network.

The Red Wings are confident they will be able to Green (neck) under a new two-year contract, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Contract talks between the two sides this week have been described as "productive," but it would be a bit surprising if Green decided not to entertain alternate options with other clubs as a pending unrestricted free agent. After all, the Red Wings have missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons and are already at long odds to claim the Stanley Cup in 2019. Green is recovering from cervical spine surgery, but it's not believed to be a serious issue.
