Lapierre announced his retirement from the NHL after 10 seasons Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Since last appearing in the NHL with the Penguins during the 2014-15 season, Lapierre has been active in various European leagues. The 35-year-old forward racked up 1,187 hits and 139 points in 614 career NHL contests.

Lapierre has been released from his professional tryout Monday by the Rangers, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lapierre was a long shot to make the roster given the depth down the middle in New York. After one season in Sweden, it appears the 31-year-old will have to return to Europe if he hopes to continue his professional career. In 614 NHL appearances, spread out across five different organizations. the Lapierre tallied 65 goals and 74 assists to go with his 586 PIM. While his fantasy value was limited to begin with, a move abroad makes the center all but an empty place holder.

Lapierre will attend the Rangers' training camp on a professional tryout agreement, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lapierre appeared in 34 games with MODO of the Swedish Hockey League last season, tallying 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) with an ugly minus-17 rating over that span. He'll hope to secure a bottom-six role, and a subsequent contract offer, with the Rangers in September's training camp. If he's ultimately unable to do so, the 31-year-old forward will likely head back overseas to continue his career.

Lapierre signed a one-year contract Tuesday with MODO of the Swedish Hockey League, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
After skating in 80 games with the Blues and Penguins last season while scoring two goals and nine assists, Lapierre was unable to generate much interest from other teams as a fourth-line option in free agency. Rather than having to enter an NHL training camp on a professional tryout offer, Lapierre determined it was in his best interest to take the guaranteed money overseas in attempt to rebuild value. The 30-year-old's deal with MODO contains an option for a second season, allowing him to return to North America next summer if he so chooses.

Lapierre recorded an assist in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Oilers. Since joining the Penguins in a late-January trade with the Blues, Lapierre has produced only two points in 20 games. He's made up for a lack of offensive skills by averaging over three hits a game with the Penguins, but it will be difficult for fantasy players to extract much usefulness from Lapierre beyond that.

Lapierre was traded to the Penguins on Tuesday in exchange for forward Marcel Goc, TSN's Darren Dreger reports. Lapierre is the pure fourth-line center the Penguins needed, while Goc had struggled to adapt since arriving in a trade-deadline deal last season. Although Lapierre's no longer piling up the hits as he used to as recently as a couple seasons ago, Lapierre's speed and willingness to mix it up should make him a welcome addition. Just don't expect much offense from the 29-year-old, who has topped the 20-point mark just once in his nine NHL seasons.

Lapierre picked up an assist in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Maple Leafs. It was just Lapierre's ninth point in 44 games this season. Though Lapierre offered some value in specialty formats in the past for his high hit and PIM totals, he's not even excelling in that capacity anymore. Those looking for help in those categories can probably find better sources than Lapierre on the waiver wire.

Lapierre scored his first goal of the season Saturday in a win over Ottawa. He was plus-1 and took three shots on the night. Lapierre is adding a bit more value of late from his spot on the fourth line with a goal and assist in the past five games. He can help in deep leagues where PIM and hits are helpful.

Lapierre notched an assist Thursday in a 4-3 win over Nashville. He was also plus-1 on the night. It was Lapierre's first point in seven games and just his third point overall. While Lapierre has never been a scorer, he has been relegated to fourth line duty as the Blues have gotten deeper with additions like teammate Jori Lehtera and Paul Stastny down the middle of the ice. Lapierre is averaging fewer than 11 minutes of ice time thus far as a result.

Lapierre will serve as a healthy scratch Saturday against the Flames, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports. After suiting up in Thursday's season opener against the Rangers, Lapierre will give way to Chris Porter in the Blues' second contest. Other than showing an ability to rack up penalty minutes, Lapierre doesn't have many skills that translate to meaningful fantasy production.
