Read was placed on waivers Monday, Elliotte Friedman of CBC reports.

EDGE Analysis

Read has only played in four games this season, and he's averaged a career-low 10:54 per game in ice time. He's likely heading back to AHL Lehigh Valley.

Read will make his season debut Saturday, when the Flyers play host to the Oilers, Bill Meltzer of NHL.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Thursday, Read is needed with the parent club since Jordan Weal (upper body) and Taylor Leier (undisclosed) will each be injured scratches the matinee. Read added 10 goals and nine helpers over 63 games with Philly last season.

Read was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

EDGE Analysis

Read had played the past six seasons in Philly, which is why it was something of a surprise that the two-time 20-goal scorer began 2017-18 in the minors. After five minor-league games, in which he scored a single goal, Read finds himself back with the Flyers, though at this point it's unclear whether or not he'll suit up for Thursday's contest with Nashville. Regardless, Read doesn't figure to make much of a fantasy impact even when he's in the lineup.

Read was waived by the Flyers on Monday, Rick Ralph of TSN 1290 Winnipeg reports.

EDGE Analysis

The writing was on the wall that Read would be deemed expendable. Philly seems keen on offering larger roles to Taylor Leier and Scott Laughton after watching the former dip in offensive production for the third straight year -- he was all the way down to 19 points in 63 games in 2016-17, and a season-ending upper-body injury compounded his troubles. There's little reason to get too caught up with Read from a fantasy perspective.

Read, who's coming off a season-ending upper-body injury, is at risk of losing his roster spot with the Flyers, the Courier-Post reports.

EDGE Analysis

Read's cap hit of $3.625 million is too large a figure for a depreciating asset coming off a career-worst 19-point season, and also the third straight year in which his offensive production slipped. The Flyers are expected to carve out a more substantial role for 23-year-old Scott Laughton, which only adds pressure on Read to reverse tide in 2017-18. For what it's worth, the Ontario native sounds up for the challenge. "You've got to show up and earn your ice time," he said. "That's kind of why I'm here early is to be in the best shape I can be and on the ice as much as I can and when it comes to Day 1, I'll be the best I can be and hopefully given the best opportunity to succeed."

Read will miss 6-to-8 weeks with an upper-body injury.

EDGE Analysis

Read, who has logged 10 goals and 19 points in 63 games to date, will thus miss the rest of the regular season, with his injury representing a hit to the Flyers' chances of rallying enough to sneak into a wild card playoff spot with a late charge.

Read scored an unassisted goal during Thursday's win over Minnesota.

EDGE Analysis

Read has seen his fantasy stock decline consistently over the past three years, and he's registered just 10 goals and 18 points this season. Those numbers don't tip the virtual scales enough to warrant ownership in the majority of seasonal settings. It's also worth noting that the 30-year-old winger enters the final year of his contract with Philadelphia next season, which will likely prove to be a make-or-break campaign for the veteran.

Read has just one goal and three points through his past 19 games since Jan. 1.

EDGE Analysis

Read is well on his way to his third consecutive decline in the points column since registering a career-high 40 points during the 2013-14 campaign. The 30-year-old winger is hardly a reliable real-world player at this point, so it's hard to view him as a viable fantasy asset in any setting.

Read (lower body) is expected to return to the lineup versus the Devils on Saturday evening, Philly.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Under normal circumstances, fantasy owners of Read would be excited about his line assignment with savvy veteran Claude Giroux and the instinctual Michael Raffl, but Grioux hasn't been playing a lick of defense as evidenced by his minus-12 rating in the past 10 games and Raffl hasn't hit the scoresheet in the last five. Still, Read -- with his impressive speed on the rush and ability to play in all situations -- could prove to be the ingredient the Flyers had been missing on the path to success.

Read (lower body) is not in the lineup again for Sunday's contest against the Capitals, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.

EDGE Analysis

Read skipped Saturday's game against Boston due to the lower-body ailment and it appears he'll rest through the team's bye week. Following Sunday's contest, the Flyers don' play again until next Saturday against the Devils, giving the veteran plenty of time to heal. The team should update the veteran's status ahead of the game, but his 11 points (six goals, five assists) don't make Read the most intriguing of fantasy options.
