Kristian Huselius made his Elitserien debut with AIK on Tuesday in a 2-1 victory versus Frolunda. He contributed an assist on the the game-winning goal of the match. The Swedish Elite League contest marked the first time that Huselius has suited up in a meaningful game since Dec. 6, 2011 at Montreal when he was a member of the Blue Jackets. Huselius missed practically the entire year in 2011-12 with a groin injury.

Kristian Huselius has signed a one-year contract with AIK of the Swedish Elite League. Huselius has been practicing with the Swedish squad for the last few months after becoming an unrestricted free agent in NHL. He has had an injury-plagued last two seasons, playing 39 games in 2010-11 and only twice in 2011-12 with the Columbus Blue Jackets after suffering a bad groin injury. He could be in the Swedish lineup as early as Tuesday.

Kristian Huselius is reportedly close to signing with Swedish Elite League club AIK. According to Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet, the former Columbus winger has been training with the team since this past fall and the two sides are discussing the terms of a deal. AIK's CEO said he is waiting for Huselius to says 'yes' to the contract so that he can be in the lineup as soon as next Tuesday. The 34-year-old forward spent most of the past two NHL seasons on the sidelines due to injury and he accused the Blue Jackets of rushing him back in the summer. His contract with the team expired after the 2011-12 campaign and now he is healthy.

Kristian Huselius spoke out against the Columbus Blue Jackets to a news outlet in Sweden recently. "I had not a single practice with the team before coming back," he said to Sweden's Aftenbladet in the translated piece. "I had one game to get acclimated. Then I went into (the next) NHL game and played 21 minutes. I think they acted wrong against me. My groin broke in the second game. I had not built up muscle mass and was not fit or ready to play." Huselius played in just two games last season and they both came in early December. He missed the first two months of the year after suffering a torn pectoral muscle last July, while lifting weights, and didn't play after Dec. 6 due to a groin injury. Huselius is an unrestricted free agent now because he stopped communicating with the Blue Jackets this summer.

Interim coach Todd Richards said he does not expect Kristian Huselius (groin) to return this season. Huselius played all of two games in December for his only action this season. It's been one thing after the other the past two years for the 33-year-old Swede. He missed two months last season - a year in which he played only 39 games -- due to a high ankle sprain and while recovering from that injury he hurt his groin, which has not been right since.

There's no guarantee that Kristian Huselius (groin) will play again this season. "He is idle right now," Blue Jackets interim coach Todd Richards said. "That's doctor's orders. He was given an injection and he was told to lay low. Not a lot has changed with him." He's been limited to just two games this season. Huselius is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, so that might motivate him to return before the end of the regular season in the hopes that it might help him in the open market.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed Kristian Huselius on the injured reserve list. Huselius suffered a groin injury a month ago so the move will be retroactive and he will be allowed to return at any time. The move was needed as Mark Letestu broke his hand on Thursday necessitating the recall of Ryan Russell. Huselius was originally diagnosed to be out four-six weeks and is still listed as week-to-week. He has played only twice this season so he will likely have no fantasy value upon his return as he has already missed half the season and will need to get back into playing shape.
