ZETTS DONE? GUIDE UPDATES & RECENT TRADE REASONING primepucks.com 4 months ago

Well, it seemed like the writing was on the wall during the tail end of last season, but Detroit Red Wing Henrik Zetterberg will miss training camp, most likely the start of the season and possibly the entire year. We may have seen the end of Zetterberg. Anything can happen between now and the start of the season but it's not looking good for Zetts.  Looks like the new era in Detroit is in full swing now.

The 2018-2019 PrimePucks(tm) Fantasy Hockey Draft Guide is updated through today's news of Henrik Zetterberg,  If you are looking to purchase a copy, click here, or on the banner on top of the home page.  Team Rankings have ben updated on the home page with others to follow this week and next.

One of my Keeper/Dynasty leagues is getting ready to draft next weekend and we have to submit Keepers by Friday night.  We are allowed 12 Keepers plus up to 5 prospects. I am happy with my 5 prospects in Sam Steel, Vitaly Abramov, Daniel Sprong, Olli Juolevi and Thatcher Demko.  I had a good problem with my NHLers though.  I just had too many good keepers. Braden Holtby and Connor Hellebuyck as my goalies.  Rasmus Ristolainen, Torey Krug and Mikhail Sergachev as my D-men. My Forwards consisted of Claude Giroux, Tyler Seguin, Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner & Jeff Carter.

Starting lineup is 2LW, 2C, 2RW, 4F, 5D, 2G with your standard scoring categories. Now I probably should've solidified my defense with a trade of a forward and a draft pick or two but I was pretty set with my keepers until I decided to make a minor move to get younger. The wheels were turning and I ended up trading Jeff Carter for a 5th round pick in next year's draft.  Doesn't sound like much but then I immediately traded a 6th round pick in this year's draft for Sam Reinhart.  I'm projecting both Carter and Reinhart to get about the same amount of points but possibly a little more upside with Reinhart if everything goes well up in Buffalo.  Plus I got a slight upgrade in a draft pick even though it's for next year.

Perhaps Eichel and Reinhart can work some magic this season. I may be giving up a bit in plus/minus but if Eichel has the breakout I'm expecting as does Reinhart, I'll be sitting pretty in Schaefer City. An old beer motto from a long, long time ago.

Anyway, hope you are enjoying the end of summer but don't forget to prepare for your upcoming draft and the PrimePucks(tm) Guide is a great end of summer reading!

Ciao for now,

Ray

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: COFFEE BRUIN! primepucks.com 11 months ago

SMC 1/7/2018

COFFEE BRUIN!

Back from the holiday break with coffee a-brewin’!

You know what else is brewing?  More like percolating; the Boston Bruins!  Don’t say we didn’t warn you a few weeks back.

Hard to believe that Patrice Bergeron only scored his second career hat-trick on Saturday.  He means so much to that team.

The big, bad Bruins really pasted Carolina goaltending on Saturday.

Jake Allen doesn’t fare well against Philadelphia. An o-3-0 record with a 3.45 GAA and a save percentage of .890.  Geez coach, let someone else start against the Flyers for Pete’s sake.

Edmonton had a dog day afternoon against Dallas on Saturday giving up 3 first period goals and losing 5-1.

Tampa Bay did the same thing.  Came back to tie the game with three unanswered goals then gave up three to the Ottawa Senators to waste their comeback effort.

Colorado is starting to score goals in bunches lately as they beat Minny 7-2 on Saturday and 6-1 last Sunday versus NY Islanders in their 5 game win streak.  Not as bad as last year, but how could they be.

Tampa Bay goalie Andrej Vasilevskiy had some stretch the past few games until he met up against Ottawa.  2 shutouts and a 2-1 shootout loss against Montreal before that lopsided loss to the Senators.

Vancouver almost beat Toronto with most of their stars missing from the lineup.  The Canucks have been playing spirited hockey this season but are a few years away still.

I am going to say that Las Vegas is for real now.  There!  Now they can go on an extended losing streak since I jinxed them.

The Golden Knights are tough to play against with all that speed and tenacity.  I have a few players on my fantasy teams.

I said this last time I think but the NY Rangers have a good shot at the Cup this year because it looks like it’s anyone’s game.

The Rangers need to start scoring a little more than 1 or 2 goals a game though.  They last scored more than 2 goals in a game 7 games ago.  But thanks to G Henrik Lundqvist they got 7 points in last 6 games.

Now it’s Anaheim’s turn to start putting together a long winning streak or winning stretch with all their players back in the lineup.

I’m thinking the same thing for Minnesota.  So, if it’s too late to grab some Bruins, go Duck hunting or go Wild!

I’m just thinking that Los Angeles could be so much better once Jeff Carter returns from his freak skate injury.

Is Dallas Stars offense starting to heat up? They scored 4 or more goals in a game in 6 out of last 8 games.

This week is going ...

ADD'EM: P AS IN PREVIOUSLY primepucks.com 2 years ago

ADD’EM 3/4/2017  P IS FOR PREVIOUSLY

Time is winding down on the 2016-2017 NHL season and if you are still in the hunt in your fantasy league’s standings, then we have some good news for you as according to ESPN leagues, there are quite a few players still available that will help your squad challenge until the very end.

Some of the players we are going to mention have been talked about in recent articles, but to my surprise, these players are still widely available.  All have been offensive contributors over the past 2-3 weeks and deserve a spot in your fantasy lineup if those that are occupying those spots aren’t living up to the task.

Last week we mentioned W Richard Panik (52.8%) of the Chicago Blackhawks and D Jake Gardiner (58.1%) of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Panik has 5 points in last 5 games not including Saturday night against Nashville while Gardiner has been quiet over the last 3, he has been the best offensive option on the waiver wire of late.  Panik has been on an ADD’EM hot streak with 3 straight appearances.

A few fresh faces on the rise of late are Mathieu Perreault (15.1%) of the Winnipeg Jets with 9 points in last 5 games, Radim Vrbata (48.6%) of Arizona Coyotes with 9 points in last 8 games and Travis Zajac (34.1%) of the New Jersey Devils.  Vrbata has been mentioned before on ADD’EM but Perreault is making his season debut.  Last season if you recall, Perreault was having himself quite a fantasy season, but this season has been limited to just 48 games.  Zajac has been clicking with Kyle Palmieri of late providing the Devils with some decent scoring.  Zajac has shown stretches of a point-per-game production throughout his career but hasn’t been as consistent as fantasy owners would like.

One other name that begins with a P, Tanner Pearson (39.9%) of the LA Kings, has been starting to break out recently with 8 points in last 8 and 14 points in last 13 with an even split in contribution between goals and assists.  Playing with Jeff Carter can get you those results.

With the playoffs approaching and the players starting to bear down into the home stretch, scoop up those that are on the upswing and hope that they continue to produce for at least another week while in your fantasy lineup. Good luck this week!

3 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 3/2/17 numberfire.com 2 years ago

Jeff Carter and his linemates -- Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson -- have a great home matchup against the Maple Leafs. Which other stacks should be on your radar for tonight's 10-game slate?

Jeff Carter has a great matchup, as the Kings take on Colorado tonight. Who else should you target in DFS on Wednesday?

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE: HAPPY 2017! NEW BEGINNINGS.. DECEMBER 8,2017 primepucks.com 2 years ago

SMC 1/8/2017 NEW BEGINNINGS!

Good morning and welcome to the New Year!  Got my mug of hot coffee and ready to start 2017 with renewed energy!

Looks like New York’s Michael Grabner also has found renewed energy with 4 goals and 3 assists in past 6 games.  As streaky as they come as he streaks down the ice in a flash.

Nathan Beaulieu is excited to see 2017 with 1 goals and 5 assists in past 6 with some additional PP time added to his game.

All the talk in Toronto and the NHL is Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, but don’t forget about Connor Brown.  6 points in last 6 games, 9 in last 8.

Don’t hit Patrik Laine too hard because they will protect him as evidenced in Buffalo on Saturday.

Mark Scheifele is rounding into true captain material, not only with his offensive capabilities but his standing up for future star Laine.

Staying in Winnipeg, this Nikolaj Ehlers is a joy to watch.  Some fantastic goals this past week.

Tampa Bay needs Ben Bishop back sooner than later as Anfrej Vasilevskiy has stunk up the joint in his absence.

Philly, with 4 goals from their secondary scoring against TB, needs that to continue if they want to be a force in the playoffs this year.

Minnesota is having a great season, but that wild, Wild West is tough to advance in come playoff time.

Jeff Carter is less streaky this season, but in a good way.  36 points in 40 games.

Where have you gone Anze Kopitar?

I don’t think teams will be looking forward to playing the Toronto Maple Leafs in the near future, if not already.

Montreal prospect Nikita Scherbak scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game.  Congrats!

Alex Radulov means a lot to this Canadiens team even though it’s his first year with the team.

Who shot JVR out of a cannon?  9 points in last 5 games.

Braden Holtby with 2 consecutive shutouts.  He’s a beast on that Washington team that is picking up steam.

I can see Pittsburgh faltering a bit as 2016 comes to an end.  It was some calendar year that’s for sure, but the New Year brings change.

T-Rask doesn’t get the props he deserves of late but he is a top 5 NHL goalie for sure.

Patrice Bergeron is starting to put points on the board more consistently now.  And he had 7 SOG in Saturday’s game versus the Panthers.

Where is Colonel Klinkhammer?

If the New Jersey Devils can make a bit of a run now, they can be a thorn in some team’s playoff sides.

Rangers with a nice comeback win against Columbus going into their mandated break.

Columbus’ second half could possibly be a huge ...

The combination of Jeff Carter and Tanner Pearson are in a great spot tonight as the Los Angeles Kings take on the Detroit Red Wings. Which other stacks are worth looking into for NHL DFS?

ADDEM: FOWLER RELEVANT...AGAIN primepucks.com 2 years ago

Another young King on the rise has been a scorching of late Tanner Pearson, who has collected 4 goals and 1 assist since returning from a two-game suspension.  The departure of LW Milan Lucic has helped create more opportunity for the youngster to take another offensive step. He is currently skating on the 2nd power-play unit, but playing with Jeff Carter at even strength helps...Victor Rask has been the top center for Carolina, collecting 6 points over 5 games and largely not owned in most fantasy leagues. Ditto for Lee Stempniak who has clicked on a unit with Rask and Jeff Skinner. The latter is long gone but the first two could be solid fantasy assets while they are hot.... I am never fully in on Artem Anisimov because of lack  of pp time, but firmly entrenched in Kane/Panarin line. However, another hot start and now am buying in to some early season hype. Just don't expect his ceiling to surpass 50-55 points, but his floor has made him a safer pick.

On defense, you can take the veteran route and consider Cam Fowler on Anaheim. While off to a hot start, his offensive stats had diminished under former coach Bruce Boudreau. The new coaching change brings back Randy Carlyle under whom Fowler enjoyed a 40-point rookie season and all the powerplay minutes he could handle. Grab him if he is available. Philip Larsen was signed by Vancouver In the offseason to run the power play. He started off slow but he has three helpers over the last 2 times. I would mention Columbus hotshot rookie Zach Werenski but the window to snag him has closed in most leagues.

DAILY ROTO LINEUP - 10/9/2015 primepucks.com 3 years ago

Winnipeg @ New Jersey                                 NY Rangers @ Columbus

Chicago @ NY Islanders                                 Toronto @ Detroit

Arizona @ Los Angeles

Some interesting matchups this evening with the Winnipeg Jets trying to carry their offensive display they had against Boston over to New Jersey.  The Devils appear to be in a rebuilding stage......The Rangers try to make it to 2-0-0 to start the season with a match against Columbus.  Both teams sport players who once played on the other squad so this carries a bit more sentiment than usual.  The Rangers held on against Chicago on Wednesday, but we will see what the Blue Jackets have in their season opener.....The Isles begin their life at the Barclay Center with the front end of a home-and-home with the Chicago Blackhwaks who will be looking to exact some punishment against their opponent after losing their banner-raising season opener on Wednesday...Toronto-Detroit looks to be a doozy as ex-Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock returns with his humongous Toronto contract to face his ex-team.  Jeff Bashill makes his debut behind the bench for the Red Wings, equipped with many of the players he coached in Grand Rapids.  The Leafs have some learning to do while the Wings will look to impress their old boss.....The nightcap pits the Arizona Coyotes against the Los Angeles Kings.  The Kings look to take out some hosttlity for losing to San Jose in their season opener and this year's NHL doormat, the Coyotes, are just what the doctor ordered to take it out on.
