Chimera hasn't registered a point in his last 12 games and only has two assists and zero goals for the entire season.
It's no wonder why many are wondering why Chimera is still a mainstay in the Islanders lineup. The 38-year old forward is in the last year of his contract but one has to believe that sooner or later the Isles will bench the veteran forward for a wing who can provide more offense to the third line. This could happen as soon as the organization believes Joshua Ho-Sang is ready to return to the big club.

Chimera only has two assists in six games for the Isles so far this season.
The 38-year old wing could eventually lose playing time once Alan Quine (upper body) and/or Shane Prince (ankle) return from injured reserve if he doesn't start to produce. Chimera is on the team to provide veteran influence to the younger forwards but the Isles still need him to produce offensively or he will be watching games from the press box.

Chimera is not protected in the upcoming expansion draft.
The Islanders chose to protect four defensemen, which led to an overwhelming amount of exposure with their forwards. For the second consecutive season, Chimera scored 20 goals and eclipsed the 30-point mark. Regardless, he turned 38 in May, meaning Vegas likely will choose a younger presence to build its organization around.

Chimera scored a goal in Sunday's 4-2 win against the Senators.
Chimera reached the 20-goal mark for the third time in his career, and second consecutive season. The veteran is a bit of a late bloomer, posting 73 points over his past two seasons. Over his first eight NHL campaigns he totaled 83 goals, but over his past six seasons he has amassed 85.

Chimera found twine in Sunday's 5-2 road loss to the Flames.
The brawny veteran is off to a hot start in March with points in three consecutive games. Only once this season has Chimera managed two points in a single contest, but that would probably be asking too much from a third-liner who has been clocking fewer than 13 minutes on average. Chimera is a serviceable fantasy commodity in deep leagues, or even a chancy bargain play in daily settings.

Chimera scored a goal on two shots over 13:44 of ice time in Thursday's 3-1 win over Philadelphia.
He's now hit 20 points for the season, and if that doesn't sound like much, well, it isn't -- Chimera is on pace to fall well short of last year's 40-point output. At 37 years old, the ex-Capital plays just a bit part for the Islanders.

Chimera scored a goal and added an assist during Monday's win over Boston.
The veteran winger has now marked the goal column in three consecutive outings, but with just eight goals and 16 points over 42 games, Chimera still doesn't boast much fantasy upside. Additionally, he entered Monday's game averaging just 12:45 of ice time per night. Without a more significant role, it'll be tough for him to provide more offensive production and gain fantasy relevance.

Chimera scored a second-period goal on his only shot on net during Wednesday's win over Pittsburgh.
After scoring 20 goals and posting 40 points last year, Chimera has just two goals and seven points through the first 22 games of 2016-17. The 37-year-old veteran is a fantasy afterthought, considering he also owns a minus-7 rating and has just 29 shots on goal.

Chimera logged a season-high 16:05 of ice time in Thursday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Flyers, having collected two PIM and just as many hits and blocks.
The Islanders toyed with the idea of putting Chimera on the top line to start the season, but he's largely been a third-line penalty killer after dropping 20 goals and 40 points with the Capitals last season. Chimera has just three assists to go along with a minus-5 rating in 11 games, so fantasy owners are advised to look in another direction -- it may take an injury for the 37-year-old to ascend to the top-six group of forwards.

Chimera could start the season on the top line with John Tavares and Andrew Ladd, Mark Hermann of Newsday reports.
This may be a new season but it's still the same old problem for the Islanders, trying to find someone to play with Tavares. Chimera has the speed to play on the top line but whether or not he has the skill remains to be seen. Either way it won't matter much as coach Jack Capuano loves to tinker with his lines and although Chimera may start on the top line that may only last a shift, period, or a game if he doesn't produce.
