Within seconds after the opening faceoff, coach Mike Sullivan's decision to move McCann to the top line paid dividends. McCann grabbed a turnover at the blue line and quickly shoveled the puck to Sidney Crosby, who had a give-and-go play with Jake Guentzel that led to a goal 19 seconds into the game. McCann then ended the game with an empty-netter goal. Since coming to the Penguins, McCann has been excellent producer with six goals and seven points in 15 games, and if he continues to play with a red-hot Crosby, McCann's fantasy value escalates considerably. In 61 games, McCann has 14 goals and 25 points this season.

EDGE Analysis

It's the first multi-goal performance of the season for the 22-year-old. McCann now has five points (all goals) in 13 games since joining the Penguins in the trade that sent Derick Brassard to Florida, but his spot on the third line -- and away from either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin -- gives him a limited fantasy ceiling.

McCann's 11th goal of 2018-19 was scored on an empty net in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Edmonton.

McCann took just four games to notch his first goal in the Black and Gold. The Ontario native is currently slotted into a third-line center role and will likely continue to fill that spot as long as coach Mike Sullivan wants to keep utilizing Nick Bjugstad on the wing. Lines will no doubt be shuffled about once Evgeni Malkin (upper body) returns to action, however, the 22-year-old McCann should provide solid depth scoring regardless of where he fits into the lineup.

McCann made his Penguins debut Friday, recording a minor slashing penalty and one empty shot over 10:08 of ice time in a 5-3 win over the Senators.

EDGE Analysis

McCann and Nick Bjugstad were traded to the Penguins in a blockbuster trade early Friday, so it was a bit surprising that both players were able to suit up right away. McCann has experience on special teams, but he remained in a fourth-line capacity in his debut with the Pens, therefore, we see no reason to pluck him off the waiver wire.

McCann was acquired from the Panthers -- along with Nick Bjugstad -- in a swap for Derick Brassard (upper body), Riley Sheahan, a 2019 second-round pick and two 2019 fourth-round picks.

EDGE Analysis

McCann will likely slot into the Penguins' third line, an upgrade from his fourth-line assignment in Florida. McCann is on pace to top his production from last season (28 points) and needs just two goals to set a new career-high. The 22-year-old's fantasy value could jump even high if coach Mike Sullivan slides Phil Kessel down onto McCann's wing in order to give the team three scoring lines.

McCann assisted on the game-tying goal in the third period during a 4-3 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets on Saturday.

McCann is on pace to break his career-high point total of 28 points. So far this season he has seven goals and 17 points in 39 games while bouncing between being second and third line center.

Sunday was McCann's second multi-point performance of 2018-19 and moved him to six goals and 15 points in 34 games this season. His goal late in the second period gave Florida a two-goal lead and would turn out to be the game-winner. He added an assist in the third period. Unless you're absolutely starving for a forward, it's probably best to look elsewhere for fantasy help.

Ever since Vincent Trocheck (ankle) went down with an injury, McCann has taken over more responsibility in the lineup, lately starting as second line center. He has scored six points in the 12 games since Trocheck went down with his injury, but the Panthers as a team have gone 4-5-3. When Nick Bjugstad (upper body) returns to the ice, he will likely challenge McCann for the second line center spot.

It is the first time since last November that McCann has scored in back-to-back games. Although it was expected that McCann would get more responsibility due to the extended absence of Vincent Trocheck (ankle), he remains as the third-line center. He has skated on the second power-play unit but hasn't benefitted from the extra ice time yet.
