Steve Zipay of New York Newsday believes the Rangers should use a compliance buyout on Brad Richards.
Richards still has seven years remaining on his nine-year, $60 million contract, but he has fallen out of favor quickly with the team and has slid down their depth chart. If the Rangers decide to keep him for another year to see how he performs under new coach Alain Vigneault then they run the risk of Richards getting injured and then he can't be bought out. The club could also probably use the cap space to sign franchise cogs like Ryan McDonagh, Ryan Callahan, Derek Stepan, Dan Girardi and Henrik Lundqvist to extensions.
