Ryane Clowe was slated to play the final year of his contract with the San Jose Sharks during the 2012-13 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

The Sharks would like to re-sign him, but if the salary cap is lowered following CBA negotiations then that might become a difficult task considering the club already has almost $54 million committed in salary next season to just 14 players. He was set to earn $4 million this year and although he experienced a tough season in 2011-12, he is a rugged player who plays with his heart on his sleeve and it would be a tough pill to swallow if they had to let him go. However, CSNBayArea.com's Kevin Kurz believes the Sharks may be faced with the decision to part with players like Patrick Marleau or Martin Havlat for cap relief.
