Alexander Semin will be returning to the NHL, according to his KHL squad Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.
The former Washington Capitals sniper was one of several players to hint at staying in Russia if the new CBA wasn't to his liking. Semin signed a one-year/$7 million contract with Carolina as a free agent this past summer. He began the lockout playing for his hometown team, Krasnoyarsk, in the VHL prior to heading to the KHL. With Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, he recorded seven goals and 16 points in 20 games while adding a minus-9 rating and 74 shots. Semin's NHL numbers took a bit of a hit in his last two seasons in Washington, but he has plenty of motivation and the skill to rebound with the Hurricanes this year.
