Cole recorded two shots, two blocked shots, two hits and four PIM during Thursday's 3-1 win over Ottawa.

EDGE Analysis

With just a goal and three points, Cole's not going to be a helpful offensive asset in most fantasy settings. Additionally, he's averaging just 16:48 of ice time per game this season, so his peripheral numbers have also suffered. Thursday's outing was the exception and not the rule through the first 18 games of the campaign.

Cole buried his first goal of the year in the 2-1 overtime win against the Oilers.

EDGE Analysis

Cole blasted a wrister past Edmonton's Cam Talbot to break a scoreless tie in the third period. After posting a career-high 26 points last year, the Notre Dame product has started off slow with just two points in seven games. On the bright side, both points have come since his return from taking a puck to the face. Cole has also blocked 12 shots and logged six hits over his last four games.

Cole will be in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

EDGE Analysis

The 28-year-old blueliner, who has missed Pittsburgh's last three games due to a mouth injury, will skate with Justin Schultz on the Penguins' second pairing Tuesday evening. He'll look to pick up his first point of the campaign in a matchup with a Rangers team that's allowing 3.50 goals per game this season, 10th in the NHL.

Cole (mouth) has been medically cleared to play against the Rangers on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Coach Mike Sullivan was only willing to go so far as to say Cole was healthy enough to play, but wouldn't confirm the 28-year-old was going to return to the lineup. While Sullivan is trying to be coy about his blue line, the effect was ruined by the fact that Matt Hunwick (undisclosed) is listed on injured reserve per the NHL media site. Cole is unlikely to be held out of the lineup in favor of Chris Summers -- who hasn't played an NHL game since 2015-16 -- but fantasy owners will want to check back when the teams hit the ice for warm-ups.

Cole (mouth) will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's matchup with New York, Sam Kasan of Pens Inside Scoop reports.

EDGE Analysis

Cole missed three games -- one for every tooth lost -- after taking a puck to the face against Nashville on Oct. 7. The blueliner has yet to get on the scoresheet this season -- making his 26-point 2016-17 campaign look like more of an exception, rather than the rule. If the 28-year-old is given the all-clear, Chris Summers will likely head back to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Chad Ruhwedel figures to move up to the press box.

The Penguins placed Cole (mouth) on injured reserve Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Cole suffered a grisly mouth injury when he took a puck to the face during Saturday's game against the Predators, so it's not surprising that the shot-blocking extraordinaire will require at least one more week to recover before returning to Pittsburgh's lineup. Chris Summers was recalled in a corresponding move Tuesday to serve as the Penguins' seventh defenseman while Cole is on the shelf.

Cole (mouth) will not be in the lineup versus the Capitals on Wednesday, Sam Kasan of Pens Inside Scoop reports.

EDGE Analysis

Despite losing a few teeth and a piece of his jaw, Cole has not been ruled out for Thursday's clash with the Lightning. More likely than not, the defenseman will be facing a pain tolerance question and could further protect his mouth by wearing a face shield or full cage whenever he returns to action. Until given the all-clear to return, the 28-year-old will be replaced on the blue line by Chad Ruhwedel.

Cole (mouth) will be out indefinitely, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

EDGE Analysis

The shot-blocking extraordinaire -- Cole redirected the puck 194 times last season -- was struck in the face by defenseman Roman Josi's slap shot, resulting in several lost teeth in Saturday's eventual 4-0 home win. Pittsburgh's back line was quite fluid last year in terms of the number of guys shuffling in and out of the lineup, and now it appears that the two-time defending champions may have to rely on Chad Ruhwedel -- who has yet to make his season debut -- in Cole's stead.

Cole took a puck to the mouth and lost multiple teeth in Saturday's game against the Predators, Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

EDGE Analysis

Cole is out indefinitely with this injury, and he'll likely be replaced by Chad Ruhwedel for the time being. After posting a career-high 26 points last season, Cole started this campaign with zero points through three games, but has added four hits and three blocked shots.

Cole can be picked in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.

EDGE Analysis

Cole has had great fortune since being traded to Pittsburgh from St. Louis in the 2014-15 season: winning two Stanley Cups and recording his best two seasons yet. That includes a five-goal, 26-point campaign this past season, where he finished with a 164 hits, 194 blocked shots, and a plus-26 rating in the second defensive rotation. A big part of his increased role was dependent on the fact that Kris Letang sat out for half the season, but let the stats speak for themselves -- he can be a legitimate two-way defenseman. The 28-year-old would only cost Vegas $2.1 million for the last year of his contract, making him an under-priced option for the start up.
