Gill announced his retirement from professional hockey Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Gill played 16 NHL seasons with six different organizations, with his last stay coming with the Flyers for six games in 2013-14. The 40-year-old was never much of a fantasy asset with no more than 24 points in any season, but received steady work due to his competent play on the back end.

Hal Gill will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday. The Flyers want to dress defenseman Erik Gustafsson instead. Gill had no points and a minus-two rating in 12:02 minutes of ice time on Saturday.

It certainly appears as if Hal Gill will suit up for the Flyers on Sunday. Gill was paired with Mark Streit in practice Saturday as Streit's usual partner, Nicklas Grossmann was injured on Friday and will not play Sunday. Gill played only six times this season as he played three games in November, one in December and two games just a couple of weeks ago. Erik Gustafsson is the other possibility for the Flyers on the blueline.

Hal Gill may patrol the back end for the Flyers in Game 5. Nicklas Grossmann was injured in Friday's game and Gill skated with Mark Streit during Saturday's practice. Coach Craig Berube likes pairing a puck-moving defenseman with a stay-at-home type, so that's why Gill could get the nod to play instead of Erik Gustafsson. Gil played in just six games during the regular season.

Hal Gill has been a healthy scratch for the last 20 games. Just an FYI as if Gill is in your fantasy lineup perhaps you should take up another hobby, like crossword puzzles which celebrates its 100th anniversary today.

Hal Gill has agreed to a one-year/$700k deal with the Philadelphia Flyers. Gill took part in the Flyers' training camp on a tryout basis. Gill should be a solid defenseman for Philadelphia, but from a fantasy perspective, he's a non-factor.

The Philadelphia Flyers might still end up signing Hal Gill. Gill attended the Flyers' training camp on a tryout basis. The team is just barely under the cap ceiling right now, but they still haven't placed Chris Pronger on the long-term injured reserve list. Once that happens, they'll have the ability to sign Gill.

A decision will be made on Hal Gill Monday. Gill is on a PTO and is definitely on the bubble as far as making the team. Gill has value only in the penalty minute category in fantasy hockey so if he is unable to sign on with the Flyers, there will be other options for you in that category.

Hal Gill probably won't end up making the Philadelphia Flyers' roster. Gill has been attending the Flyers' training camp on a tryout basis. However, the Flyers have a defensive logjam that they haven't really addressed over the preseason, so there doesn't appear to be a spot for Gill. Of course, that could change quickly if Philadelphia makes a trade.

Hal Gill is still in the mix to make the Philadelphia Flyers, but it will be hard for him to breakthrough their defensive logjam. Philadelphia has nine defensemen inked to one-way contracts, not including Chris Pronger. All the same, Gill has been holding his own in the preseason and that should help him get a job elsewhere if things don't work out with Philadelphia.
