St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong likes what the addition of Derek Roy could bring to the Blues' roster. "We have bigger players, we have scoring centermen, we were looking for a playmaking centerman," Armstrong said. "I think Derek adds diversity to our group of forwards. When you look at the centermen we've had in the past, maybe size down the middle was one of our strengths ... we have [David] Backes and [Patrik] Berglund, they're big men; we have a different component in Derek. We're hoping he's going to create offense for players like Chris Stewart on the wing." Roy got a one-year contract from the Blues in July, so he could be motivated to secure a longer term deal for himself this year with a strong showing. He is projected to play on one of the team's top three lines.

Derek Roy is officially a member of the St. Louis Blues. Roy has passed his physical, which was the last step towards his contract being finalized. He will earn $4 million in 2013-14 and then he's eligible to re-enter the free agent market.

Blues GM Doug Armstrong thinks Derek Roy will have an opportunity to put his career back on track in St. Louis. "It's a great opportunity for Derek to re-establish himself as a player he believes he can be and we believe he can be," Armstrong said. "I think he saw what happened Friday (with the large contracts) and I think he's got a real drive to play himself back into that category of a multi-year deal." Roy accepted a one-year/$4 million deal with the St. Louis Blues after recording 28 points in 42 games last season. He has the potential to do better and, depending on the role that he earns, perhaps even flirt with the 70 point mark in 2013-14.

Derek Roy has agreed to a one-year/$4 million deal with the St. Louis Blues. Roy had seven goals and 28 points in 42 games last season. At his height, he could average about 70 points per season, but he's struggled in recent years. This deal will give him the opportunity to bounce back and try for a longer term contract next season.

Derek Roy scored a goal in Vancouver's 7-2 blowout loss to the Oilers Saturday night. It was his sixth point in 12 games since joining the Canucks. He might be worth a look in deep playoff pools if you believe the Canucks could go far this post-season.

Derek Roy scored the lone Vancouver goal in a 5-1 loss to the Stars on Thursday. Roy has only recorded four points in eight games with the Canucks, but a recent move to the wing alongside Ryan Kesler may have jumpstarted. This goal against his former team was the only one registered by Vancouver on this night.

It turned out that the Canucks moved Derek Roy to the wing on Monday instead of Ryan Kesler and the results were great. It was thought that Kesler would be the player moving from the center spot but Alain Vigneault moved Roy instead. "I told (Alain Vigneault) I played wing (in the 2007) playoffs and before you know it, I look on the board and I'm on the wing," Roy said. Roy had a goal and an assist in the game with Kesler finding the net twice. Jannik Hansen played on the other side.

The Vancouver Canucks will go with Alex Burrows and Ryan Kesler flanking Derek Roy on the second line Monday. The Canucks are trying to get Roy going as he doesn't have a point in his last four games with Vancouver after being acquired five games ago from Dallas. The Canucks will move Jannik Hansen to the top line with the Sedin twins to accommodate Burrows moving down to the second line. This move should work for Roy although he is talented enough to come out of the slump on his own.

Derek Roy will make his Vancouver debut Thursday when the high-flying Edmonton Oilers visit. He will center the second line between Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen. Roy left the Dallas Stars with one goal and five assists in his final five games with the club.

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Derek Roy from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Kevin Connauton and a second-round pick. Roy will slide in immediately as the Canucks' No. 2 center and should see a decent boost to his fantasy value, especially once Mason Raymond is healthy. The question becomes whether he'll remain on the second line once Ryan Kesler is back in the lineup. Connauton has yet to play in an NHL game after being selected with the 83rd overall pick in the 2009 draft. He has seven goals and 25 points in 60 AHL games this season.
