Seidenberg has signed a professional tryout contract with the Islanders, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

EDGE Analysis

Seidenberg signed a similar deal with the Islanders during training camp, but he was unable to secure an Opening Night roster spot with the club. The veteran blueliner would likely need to put on an impressive display if there's to be a chance for him to stick around beyond the tryout.

The Islanders released Seidenberg from his professional tryout offer Wednesday, TSN reports.

EDGE Analysis

The 37-year-old blueliner will likely have a tough time landing a spot with another NHL club, so he may have to head overseas in order to continue his playing career.

Seidenberg has signed a PTO with the Islanders, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports.

EDGE Analysis

Seidenberg spent last season with the Islanders, suiting up in 28 games for the team and recording five points, all assists. The 37-year-old defender has quickly gone from everyday defender to roster depth, and will only rarely see the ice if he converts this PTO into a full-time contract.

Seidenberg, who is currently an unrestricted free agent, participated in an informal skate with the Islanders on Thursday, Arthur Staple of The Athletic New York reports.

EDGE Analysis

The German spent the past two seasons with the Isles, adding five goals and 22 assists over 101 games. Given that Seidenberg is 37 years old, it's safe to deduce that he's drawing close to retirement, but his presence at the informal skate suggests that he's at least contemplating playing at least one more season. Still, there hasn't been any official word that he's signed a PTO with New York.

Seidenberg will suit up for Team Germany in the World Championships next month, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

EDGE Analysis

The 36-year-old played in 28 games for the Islanders this year, bouncing in-an-out of the lineup for most of the season. He registered just five assists and a minus-9 rating. The World Championships will start up in May and Seidenberg should play an important role on the team's blue line.

Seidenberg will be a healthy scratch Saturday evening when the Islanders play host to the Blackhawks.

EDGE Analysis

The blueliner from West Germany reportedly will be replaced by Brandon Davidson, who has put an undisclosed issue behind him after a three-game layoff. Seidenberg, who qualifies as a journeyman, had no trouble posting 20-plus points in his prime, but now he's 36 years old and it seems his sights are solely set on delivering hits and blocked shots -- he's up to 55 and 39 of those, respectively, in 24 games this season.

Seidenberg hasn't played during the Islanders last 10 games.

EDGE Analysis

He has only played in 22 games for the Islanders this season and has only accumulated five assists during those contests. He was brought in as veteran insurance but coach Doug Weight has opted more often than not to go with his young defenders over Seidenberg. He will probably be looking for a new home next season.

Seidenberg was a healthy scratch for the fifth time in the last seven games Monday versus Minnesota.

EDGE Analysis

Seidenberg has only played 22 games this season and has only five assists and no goals. He is an emergency defenseman for the Isles who only plays when there is a late injury or if coach Doug Weight believes one of his younger defenders needs a game off.

Seidenberg has only played three games this calendar year and has been a healthy scratch in seven of the past eight Islander games.

EDGE Analysis

One might have thought that with injuries to Johnny Boychuk (lower body) and Calvin de Haan (shoulder) that Seidenberg would've have seen increase in playing time. That has not been the case however as coach Doug Weight has preferred to use younger defenders like Ryan Pulock and Sebastian Aho. It looks like Seidenberg will only be used when a starting defender needs a day off or when a late injury occurs before the team can call up another defender from the AHL.

Seidenberg collected two assists, four hits and a blocked shot Thursday in a 6-4 road loss to the Flyers.

EDGE Analysis

This was the second multi-assist performance for Seidenberg this season, but he's having a tough time drawing into the lineup these days let alone impressing fantasy owners with his offensive binges. Generally, a good starting point in searching for a fantasy defender is making sure he skates at least 20 minutes per game; the German doesn't check that box.
