Carcillo formally announced his retirement Thursday in an article posted on The Players' Tribune.
EDGE Analysis
Carcillo had been trending toward retirement all summer, as his agent wasn't actively reaching out to interested organizations while the winger instead focused his efforts on establishing Chapter 5, a non-profit organization designed to help recently-retired players transition to post-career life. Carcillo named the organization in honor of late teammate Steve Montador, who wore No. 5 before walking away from the game due to concussion issues in 2013. With a new passion to invest his time and effort, Carcillo will wrap up a 429-game NHL career that included 100 points, two Stanley Cup trophies, and a whole lot of irritated opponents.

Carcillo told Kap and Haugh of WGN Radio on Wednesday that he's "about 98 percent ready to move on" from professional hockey.
EDGE Analysis
The news isn't especially surprising after the Chicago Tribune reported earlier this month that Carcillo was focusing his offseason efforts on establishing a not-for-profit organization for post-career NHL players. Carcillo's rough-around-the-edges game doesn't really fit well in the modern NHL, which has resulted in him receiving limited interest in free agency this summer. Unless the 30-year-old has a change of heart once training camps start up in September, expect him to formally announce his retirement at some point in the near future.

Carcillo (concussion) has medical clearance to play for the Blackhawks during their second-round series with the Wild, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Carcillo's best skill is his ability to fight, and with the enforcer role typically diminished during the playoffs, coach Joel Quenneville probably doesn't have much reason to use the winger. Even though he's healthy, Carcillo might not get a chance to play until Quenneville becomes displeased with the performance of one of the Blackhawks' current crew of bottom-six forwards.

Carcillo (upper body) was a participant in Tuesday's morning skate, NHL.com's Brian Hedger reports. Carcilllo is still awaiting medical clearance to play, but believes that could come as soon as Wednesday. The winger will sit out his 13th straight game Tuesday, with his last appearance coming March 26. It appears unlikely at this stage that he'll be able to draw back into the Blackhawks' lineup before the first-round matchup with the Predators concludes.

Carcillo (upper body) has yet to resume skating, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports. At this point, it appears doubtful that Carcillo will make an appearance for the Blackhawks during their first-round series with the Predators. The tough winger hasn't appeared in a game since suffering the injury March 26 against the Flyers.

Carcillo (upper body) will remain out of the lineup Tuesday against the Wild, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports. Carcillo will miss his seventh straight game with the injury, and there's no clear indication on when he might be due to return. Those hoping for help in the PIM and hits categories from Carcillo over the final week of the regular season should go ahead and explore other options.

Carcillo (upper body) will not play Friday against the Blue Jackets, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports. Carcillo wasn't present for Friday's morning skate after suffering the injury two days ago against the Flyers, so it appears safe to rule him out for the game. Teuvo Teravainen will enter the lineup in Carcillo's place.

Carcillo is dealing with an upper-body injury and is being listed as day-to-day, ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers reports. Carcillo was absent from Thursday's practice after likely sustaining the injury in Wednesday's game against the Flyers. The rugged winger, who has produced eight points in 39 games this season, is uncertain to be ready to play in time for Friday's tilt with the Blue Jackets.

Carcillo, who did not skate against the Avalanche on Friday as he was attending the funeral of late teammate Steve Montador, might be back in the lineup on Sunday against the Bruins, CSN Chicago reports. Before missing Friday's game, Carcillo had been a healthy scratch for a pair of games. Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville and other Blackhawks complained about the lackluster play by the team on Friday in the 4-1 loss to the Avalanche so they might be hoping to get a boost of adrenaline from Carcillo. Despite being in and out of the lineup, Carcillo has actually had his best scoring season since 2011-12. He has four goals and four assists in 36 games this season to go along with 34 hits and seven blocks. Carcillo though only has an assist since Dec. 13.
