Free agent S Yeremiah Bell is reportedly likely to retire. Bell started all 16 games for the Cardinals last season, playing just about every snap and handling himself reasonably well as part of the league's No. 6 defense. But at age 36, it sounds like he wants to go out on a high note. The Cardinals need to add depth to the safety spot with Tyrann Mathieu coming off a torn ACL.

The Arizona Republic projects Yeremiah Bell and Rashad Johnson as the Cardinals' starters at safety. Bell will presumably play free safety with Johnson at strong. Despite the fact that Arizona drafted Tyrann Mathieu early in the third round, they'll ease him in on special teams and as a potential slot cornerback in nickel packages. If Johnson keeps the strong safety job, he'll be the IDP to target in the group.

The rotation could end up working, as Landry (Achilles) is a major injury risk while Bell and Smith are stretched as full-time starters.

Bell isn't known to have visited the Eagles, but visited the Jets in April and the Titans on Tuesday. Wherever he ends up, it sounds like he'll have a tough time locking down a roster spot in camp.
