Davis said Alex Smith has improved since the two played together in San Francisco from 2006 to 2012, ESPN.com's John Keim reports.

EDGE Analysis

It isn't exactly a bold assertion, considering Smith is coming off a 2017 campaign in which he established personal bests for passing yards (4,042), passing touchdowns (26) and yards per attempt (8.0), despite sitting out Week 17. While the 33-year-old quarterback likely will appreciate seeing a familiar face in his new locker room, the Redskins are hoping Davis merely will serve as their No. 2 tight end, with Jordan Reed expected to finish his rehab from toe surgery before the start of training camp. Of course, it's anyone's guess how long Reed will actually stay healthy, and Davis will have every chance to rebuild chemistry with Smith in the meantime. The 34-year-old tight end produced 9.9 yards per target in 2016 and 9.4 in 2017, but his volume typically remained modest even when Reed was unavailable.

Davis, who hauled in two of his three targets for 20 yards in Week 17's loss to the Giants, ended the season with 43 receptions for 648 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games.

EDGE Analysis

When he joined the Redskins two years ago, Davis was an afterthought for many. However, the veteran tight end has found resurgence in Washington, posting 87 receptions for 1,231 yards and five touchdowns over the past two seasons. Davis turns 34 later this month, so retirement questions come with the territory, but there's a good chance he returns for another go around in 2018 given the three-year extension he inked with the team back in March. Davis was able to maintain fantasy relevance throughout the season with Jordan Reed sidelined for 10 games -- a trend that could continue next year given Reed's injury history.

Davis caught two of three targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-11 win over the Broncos.

EDGE Analysis

Davis has seen his production tail off since registering at least 55 receiving yards seven times in an eight-game stretch earlier this season, but Jordan Reed's (hamstring) presence on injured reserve leaves him as the clear top option at tight end in Washington. At a position with few standout performers, Davis has done enough to maintain a roster spot in most settings and has aided owners with touchdowns in two of the last three weeks. Davis could be an appealing target in both season-long matchups and DFS settings in Week 17 against a Giants team that has been burned by tight ends throughout the campaign and will be missing a key cog in the secondary in Landon Collins (forearm).

Davis recorded two receptions for 18 yards but fumbled once in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

EDGE Analysis

Even without Jordan Reed (hamstring) on the field, Davis has struggled to make ends meet the last few weeks, recording six receptions for 59 yards over the past four games. To put that in perspective, Davis managed over 59 receiving yards in all but one contest from Week 4 through Week 11. Given the current slump, the veteran doesn't seem like an ideal fantasy option next Sunday against the Broncos, one of the league's best passing defenses.

Davis brought in two of seven targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Chargers.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran tight end's lackluster stretch continues, as he's now posted just four receptions for 41 yards and Sunday's touchdown over the last three games. The score did help salvage his day somewhat from a fantasy perspective, but Davis has generally struggled to maintain strong production after posting 16 receptions for 215 yards in Weeks 9-11. With Jordan Reed (hamstring) yet to even resume practicing, Davis will likely have a chance to improve his production in a Week 15 battle against the Cardinals.

Davis hauled in both of his targets for 15 yards in Thursday's loss to the Cowboys.

EDGE Analysis

Davis hasn't found the end zone since Week 3 and hasn't had over three receptions in a contest in three weeks. Should Jordan Reed (hamstring) return this week, Davis would likely see a drop in offensive reps, making him a less than ideal fantasy option for Week 14.

Davis was targeted just once and failed to record a reception in Thursday's 20-10 Thanksgiving win over the Giants.

EDGE Analysis

Davis failed to take advantage of fellow tight end Jordan Reed's (hamstring) absence. While both offenses were held in check for much of the night, the veteran tight end's lack of production was still disappointing. It was the first time since Week 1 that he was unable to haul in a catch. He will look to bounce back next week versus the Cowboys.

Davis' teammate Jordan Reed (hamstring) will not play in Thursday's game against the Giants.

EDGE Analysis

Davis has averaged 5.3 catches for 68.3 yards on 7.8 targets in the four games Reed has missed this season. The 33-year-old now gets to face a Giants defense that's given up a league-high 10 touchdowns to tight ends, along with 59 receptions (tied for third most) and 752 receiving yards (also third most).

Davis caught three of six targets for 67 yards in Sunday's 34-31 overtime loss to New Orleans.

EDGE Analysis

Davis once again contributed a solid performance while seeing an expanded role with Jordan Reed (hamstring) sidelined. The veteran tight end still hasn't found paydirt since Week 3, though.

Davis will be in line for a third straight start Sunday against the Saints with top tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring) ruled out for the contest, Master Tesfatsion of The Washington Post reports.

EDGE Analysis

Even in the six games that Reed has played this season, Davis has seen ample snaps with the Redskins relying heavily on two-tight end sets, but the veteran's fantasy ceiling is always higher when a proven pass catcher like Reed is sidelined. Over Reed's three absences to date, Davis has hauled in 18 of 25 targets for 206 yards and a score. That prior track record of productivity should make Davis a must-play option in most season-long formats this week, despite drawing a tough matchup against a stout Saints passing defense.
