Mason is interested in resuming his football career, AL.com's Matt Zenitz reports.
EDGE Analysis
A 2014 third-round pick, Mason has been arrested multiple times since he last played football in 2015, with mental health issues seemingly playing a major role in his struggles. He never reported to the Rams in 2016 and eventually was waived in March of 2017. Now believed to be in a better place mentally, the 24-year-old is hoping for another shot in the NFL. He averaged 4.3 yards on 179 carries as a rookie in 2014, but then managed just 2.8 yards on 75 totes while serving as Todd Gurley's backup for most of 2015. With age and natural talent both working in his favor, Mason could get another chance to prove himself in the NFL.

Mason (personal) was waived by the Rams on Friday, Howard Balzer of BalzerFootball.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason failed to take the field during the 2016-17 season due to several legal issues, leaving the Rams no choice but to part ways with the 23-year-old. It seems likely he will have to address legal and personal issues before considering a return to the league.

Mason was arrested Tuesday for his involvement in a July incident in which he fled from authorities on an ATV, Olivia Hitchcock of the Palm Beach Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason was reportedly "tearing the place up" on his ATV while riding around roads July 27 when an officer attempted to stop him, prompting Mason to flee the scene. After months of the authorities filing paperwork necessary for Mason's potential arrest, he was finally picked up Tuesday. Mason has not been in contact with the Rams for quite some time, and obviously didn't play during the 2016 season. He was also arrested back in March for the suspicion of possession of marijuana, reckless driving, failure to register a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. At this point, his NFL outlook has taken a backseat to potentially career-ending personal issues.

The Rams haven't been in contact with Mason (personal) for the past seven months, ESPN.com reports. "Right now, we're more concerned with Tre Mason's well-being than we are his football career," head coach Jeff Fisher said last weekend. "We're going to continue to try to reach him to see where he's at."
EDGE Analysis
The last correspondence between the two parties took place at the end of last season. Since losing to the 49ers in Week 17, his offseason has included a March arrest for marijuana possession and resisting an officer, among other charges, and no participation in the offseason program. With his status up in the air, he's untouchable until there's a resolution to the matter.

The Rams placed Mason on the Reserve/Did Not Report list Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Mason has been absent from any Rams activity since early March following an arrest for multiple violations, including marijuana possession and resisting arrest. In the interim, he's tended to personal issues, and the decision to place him on the aforementioned list relays the team's lack of confidence in when he may report to training camp.

Mason (personal) is still not with the Rams and his status for training camp is unclear, the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason has been excused from the team for personal reasons since early March, when he was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, reckless driving, failure to register a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. According to a recent TMZ report, Mason has subsequently been at the center of a number of other incidents involving police the past few months, with family members expressing concern about his mental health. While the details surrounding his situation aren't known, it does seem clear that Mason won't be with the Rams for the early part of training camp.

Mason is unlikely to participate in any OTA sessions, as he has been excused for "personal reasons" in dealing with the aftermath of numerous legal issues in the offseason, Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason has a long way to go to get back on the field after being arrested for reckless driving, resisting arrest, and marijuana possession in March. He was already slipping down the depth charts, and this may push him to fourth or fifth if he doesn't get suspended first.

Mason was arrested Saturday in Hollywood, Fla., on suspicion of reckless driving, marijuana possession, resisting an officer, and lack of vehicle registration, the Los Angeles Times reports. On Sunday, the Rams released the following statement: "We are very disappointed to learn of an incident involving Tre Mason in the Miami, Fla. area Saturday afternoon. We are in the process of obtaining more information about the facts surrounding this incident and will have no further comment at this time."
EDGE Analysis
Although he was relegated to reserve duty with the addition of Todd Gurley in 2015, Mason was a key part of the running-back rotation in St. Louis, tallying 75 carries for 207 yards (2.7 YPC) and 18 receptions (on 21 targets) for 88 yards. Expected to play a similar role following the move to Los Angeles, Mason could be putting himself on shaky ground at the outset of this coming season, with a suspension from the NFL potentially forthcoming. If the preceding comes to pass, Benny Cunningham or another offseason addition could serve as Gurley's top backup in Week 1 and beyond.

Mason had 18 carries for 44 yards, but scored a short touchdown in Sunday's 19-16 overtime loss at San Francisco.
EDGE Analysis
With rookie sensation Todd Gurley (foot) inactive, Mason got a ton of work, but was unable to fully capitalize. His four-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his first score of the season, and nearly didn't happen, as the play was designed for him to throw the ball into the end zone on a trick play. After a promising rookie season in 2014, Mason was on the bench for most of this year, as Gurley established himself as a potential star. Thus, look for Mason to head back to a reserve role in 2016, barring some sort of injury to Gurley.

With Todd Gurley doubtful for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Mason is expected to start at running back for the Rams in Week 17, per Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
EDGE Analysis
With Gurley likely to be held out of the Rams' finale with the long haul in mind, Mason figures to draw the start at running back for the team Sunday, with Benny Cunningham a candidate to see some third-down work. As a result, Mason makes for a decent Week 17 fantasy plug-in for those scrambling for an option at RB, notably those who have been rolling with Gurley of late.
