KRON Bay Area 4 reports former Bengals and Raiders LB Thomas Howard was killed Monday in a high-speed car accident on an Oakland highway. Howard was allegedly driving over 100 MPH when he lost control of his BMW sedan and collided with a semi-trick in the left lane. Howard's BMW later struck a Chevy Monte Carlo and Honda CRV. The driver of the Honda was also killed, while the Monte Carlo owner was hospitalized. The accident is believed to have occurred at roughly 12:50AM Monday. Howard was a second-round pick by Al Davis' Raiders in 2006. He was a starter for five years in the NFL.

Falcons waived LB Thomas Howard. The move clears a roster spot for Sean Weatherspoon, who came off injured reserve/designated to return on Tuesday. Howard had been active twice since being signed on October 22, but was held off the stat-sheet. The veteran 'backer has appeared in only three games since the start of the 2012 season.

Falcons signed LB Thomas Howard. LB Jamar Chaney was waived in a corresponding roster move. A longtime Raider, Howard was signed by the Bengals in 2012, but tore his ACL in Week 2. If he's all the way back, he could prove to be a nice depth signing for the Falcons' undermanned linebacker corps. Howard turned 30 in July.

Free agent LB Thomas Howard left his visit with the Bengals without a contract. Howard is still working his way back from ACL surgery and likely didn't receive medical clearance. He started 16 games with the Bengals from 2011-2012 and is capable of playing all three linebacker positions.

The Bengals will host LB Thomas Howard for a free-agent visit on Tuesday. It may just be a routine workout and checkup on Howard's health. He tore his ACL in Week 2 last season and has generated no significant interest as an unsigned player. Howard can add depth at all three linebacker positions.

The Bengals will not re-sign free agent LB Thomas Howard, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy. With the emergence of Vontaze Burfict and the decision to retain Rey Maualuga, the door was closed in Cincinnati on a potential reunion with Howard. After tearing his ACL in Week 2 last season, Howard said his knee is "absolutely fabulous," and he's ready to contribute if given an opportunity. He's been greeted by an extremely cold market so far.

Free agents LB Thomas Howard and OG Lance Louis visited the Dolphins on Thursday. Miami is completely remaking its linebacker corps. If another linebacker like Howard is signed, there's speculation that WLB Koa Misi could be moved down to defensive end. Howard played in just one game last season before tearing his ACL. Louis also tore his ACL last season in Week 12. He'd be competition for John Jerry and Richie Incognito.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the "conventional wisdom" is that the Bengals will re-sign free agent LB Thomas Howard. Howard is recovering from a torn ACL, but says his knee is doing "absolutely fabulous," and that he's "right on pace" for 2013. Meanwhile, beat writer Joe Reedy reiterates it would be a "surprise" if MLB Rey Maualuga is re-signed. Vontaze Burfict is expected to take Maualuga's place in the middle.

Bengals WLB Thomas Howard is out for the season after tearing his ACL in Wednesday's practice. It's a huge loss for Mike Zimmer's defense. Howard was the Bengals' leading tackler last season and their best defender at Baltimore in Week 1, playing all 62 snaps. Core special teamer Dan Skuta is top candidate to take over on the weak side. The 29-year-old Howard was in the final season of a two-year, $6.5 million contract.
