Vollmer (hip) will be released by the Patriots, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

Vollmer has been one of the Patriots offensive lineman over the course of his eight year career, starting 80 games over that time frame. However, a hip injury held him out for the entire 2016 season, and the veteran would have been owed $2.25 million in 2017, an amount that didn't seem worth it considering Vollmer's health issues. There are reports that he might retire, but he also might look for work on another NFL roster.

Vollmer (hip) will be out for the remainder of the season after beginning his 2016 campaign on the PUP list, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Vollmer's lingering hip issue will keep him sidelined and unavailable for the Patriots down the final stretch. Marcus Cannon figures to continue starting at right tackle for the team moving forward, while Vollmer is slated to test free agency next offseason.

Vollmer (hip) will begin the season on the reserve/PUP list.

EDGE Analysis

This means that Vollmer will not be activated until Week 7. It looked as if there was a slimmer of chance he could avoid this fate, but his hip just isn't there yet. Marcus Cannon is set to open the season as the team's starting right tackle while Vollmer rehabs.

Vollmer, who is on the Patriots' preseason PUP list, continues to deal with a nagging hip injury, CSN New England reports.

EDGE Analysis

As a result, the Patriots' starting right tackle is a candidate to wind up on regular season PUP or even IR. In Vollmer's absence, Marcus Cannon now appears on track to start opposite left tackle Nate Solder, with the team's line further taxed by news Sunday that guard Shaq Mason has a broken hand.

Vollmer (knee) is set to open training camp on the Patriots' active/PUP list, ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Vollmer dealt with nagging knee injuries throughout the 2015 campaign which have evidently extended into this offseason. However, the Patriots are likely exercising caution with their valuable offensive lineman as he further proved his versatility last season by sliding over to protect Tom Brady's blind side when LT Nate Solder (biceps) was lost to IR after just four games. When he's cleared to practice, Vollmer will revert back to his natural right tackle position.

Patriots placed RT Sebastian Vollmer on injured reserve with a broken right leg, ending his season.

It's a huge blow for the Pats, as their offensive line had been one of the few areas of the team not racked by injury. Vollmer was playing some of the best football of his career, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 right tackle. He'll be replaced by third-year G/C Marcus Cannon. Signed through 2016, Vollmer will be back as the Patriots' right tackle next season, but the injury costs him a $1 million roster bonus, and more in playing-time incentives.

Patriots RT Sebastian Vollmer suffered an apparently serious right leg injury in Sunday's Week 8 game against the Dolphins.

Vollmer got rolled up on a stretch run play to the right side, and needed an air cast to be placed on his leg. Vollmer's screams could be heard on television he was in so much pain. Look for Marcus Cannon to replace him at right tackle.
