Given the lack of quality alternatives at the position, Griffin should be in the TE1 mix when the Dolphins come to town in Week 14.

Griffin only scored seven touchdowns in six seasons with the Texans, but he now has five touchdowns with the Jets in 2019, including four in the past five games. Given his productivity in green and white, it's no surprise the team opted to ink the 29-year-old tight end to an extension Saturday. Griffin's touchdown in this one came from one yard out on a beautifully designed play that had quarterback Sam Darnold look right before coming back left to Griffin with no Raiders on that side of the field.

Griffin is coming off a five-catch, 109-yard performance last week against the Redskins and will now spend a few more seasons in New York. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, it's a three-year extension and could be worth up to $10.8 million, and it also includes $4 million guaranteed. The 29-year-old has started all 10 games this season and has 25 catches for 269 yards and four touchdowns, and he's taken full advantage of the absence of Chris Herndon (ribs, suspension).

Griffin was a deep target all game, as four of his five receptions went for more than 15 yards. His long catch of the day went for 48-yards when Sam Darnold found him wide open along the sideline. Just one play later, he hauled in a 16-yard pass to find the end zone for his fourth touchdown of the season. Given Chris Herndon's (rib) placement on injured reserve, Griffin should be in a good position to serve as the team's top receiving tight end option for the remainder of the campaign. He'll also have a strong matchup in Week 12 as the team will take on Oakland.

Griffin is expected to serve as the Jets' starting tight end Week 11 against the Redskins after teammate Chris Herndon was diagnosed Monday with a fractured rib, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Though he didn't definitively rule Herndon out for the season, coach Adam Gase noted that the tight end would likely be out for "an extended period of time" as a result of his latest setback on the health front. Before moving into a more reduced role while Herndon made his season debut in Sunday's 34-27 win over the Giants, Griffin had played at least 84 percent of the snaps in each of the Jets' preceding eight games. Griffin proved to be little more than a marginal fantasy option during that stretch, however, totaling only 19 catches for 162 yards and three touchdowns on 24 targets.
