Former Lions, Cowboys, and Bears wide receiver Roy Williams has retired. Williams announced his decision on his Facebook page. The Texans had him in for a workout in late July but were just doing their due diligence. Williams cites his trade to Dallas as a turning point in his career, "Put up good numbers my first few years, went to a Pro Bowl then I got to Dallas and it stopped... The grass ain't always greener on the other side." Williams is content on hanging up the cleats and spending time with his sons, even though he didn't exactly go out on his own terms. He ends his career with 393 catches for 5,715 yards and 44 touchdowns.

The Texans were reportedly just "kicking tires" on free agent Roy Williams during Thursday's workout. It sounds like the Texans are simply putting in their due diligence on available veterans in case unproven receivers Lestar Jean and DeVier Posey aren't up to the task in August. No signing is imminent.

Free agent Roy Williams will work out for the Texans on Thursday. The Texans must be feeling really desperate. Williams hasn't been an effective receiver since he played with Mike Martz in Detroit, and he's now on the wrong side of 30. We do expect Houston to add a veteran wideout before Week 1.

The Bears have reportedly not contacted free agent Roy Williams since the end of the season. Williams was told at season's end that the team wanted him back, but that was before the departures of coordinator Mike Martz and GM Jerry Angelo. Unless the Bears strike out at wide receiver in free agency and the draft, we suspect they won't seriously entertain the notion of bringing back Williams.

Free agent Roy Williams led all Bears receivers with 600 snaps in 2011. A number that speaks to how under-manned and misused the Bears' receiver corps was last season. With enabler Mike Martz now retired, Williams is extremely unlikely to be re-signed by Chicago. Considering the lack of explosion and stone hands he showed in 2011, it's possible no one will be interested in Williams' services.

Roy Williams caught four passes for 60 yards and a touchdown on seven targets against the Vikings in Week 17. Williams emerged as Josh McCown's favorite receiver in the final two games, but it may have been too little too late from the Bears' perspective. The drop-prone, inconsistent 30-year-old finished his first season in Chicago with a 37/507/2 line. Though Williams is a favorite of OC Mike Martz and WRs coach Darryl Drake, he's no lock to be back as an impending free agent.

Impending unrestricted free agent Roy Williams said he wants to return to the Bears. The Bears shouldn't want Williams back. Not even old friend Mike Martz could revive Williams' career as he's caught 33 passes for 447 yards and one touchdown in 14 games. Upgrading Jay Cutler's weapons is a must for the Bears this offseason. Williams' lack of athleticism is glaring and he's unwilling to go over the middle as a possession receiver.

Roy Williams caught a season-high six passes for 81 yards in Chicago's Week 16 loss to the Packers. Don't be fooled by Williams' stat line. Chicago's stiff-bodied "No. 1 receiver" alligator armed two more potential catches, and tacked on essentially no yardage after the catch. As has been the case all season, the one-time acrobatic leaper displayed startlingly little athleticism. Williams will be a hindrance to the Bears' passing game if he's re-signed for 2012.

Bears WR Roy Williams did not catch a pass in Week 15. He was targeted just once and should've been dropped several weeks back.

Roy Williams caught two passes for 22 yards in Week 14. An improvement on Week 13, where Williams was held without a catch against the Chiefs. Amazingly, Williams was actually able to make a catch in traffic today, but was otherwise his typically invisible self. Already valueless under Jay Cutler, Williams couldn't be less fantasy relevant with Caleb Hanie starting for the Bears.
