Lions released LB Rocky McIntosh. Detroit is down to five linebackers on its 53, with Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis behind Stephen Tulloch, Ashlee Palmer, and DeAndre Levy.

Lions signed LB Rocky McIntosh to a one-year contract. 30-year-old McIntosh worked out for the Lions early in training camp. In 16 games (nine starts) with the Rams last season, McIntosh notched 44 tackles and a sack. St. Louis didn't re-sign him because he's an ineffective player.

The Rams would like to get free agent LB Rocky McIntosh under contract "relatively quickly," according to the Post-Dispatch. McIntosh worked out for head coach Jeff Fisher Wednesday morning, and the coach liked what he saw. Considering McIntosh has been on the street all offseason, a contract should be easy to hammer out. He could push Jo-Lonn Dunbar or Mario Haggan for a starting role at outside linebacker in Fisher's 4-3 scheme.

Free agent LB Rocky McIntosh is participating in Rams minicamp on a tryout basis. McIntosh worked out personally in front of coach Jeff Fisher on Wednesday morning, and took part in individual drills in the afternoon. A 29-year-old with four and a half years of starting experience, McIntosh could be a starter in St. Louis.

The Jets recently hosted ILB Rocky McIntosh for a free agent visit. McIntosh has also met with the Vikings, Bears, and Dolphins since the free agency period began. The 29-year-old would be depth for Rex Ryan's defense.

Free agent Rocky McIntosh worked out for the Vikings this week. McIntosh had previously visited the Bears and Dolphins. He would likely back up WLB Erin Henderson and expected first-year starter MLB Jasper Brinkley if he lands in Minnesota.
