Grossman was released by the Falcons on Friday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grossman only stuck with the Falcons for one week, losing out to Sean Renfree for the right to serve as Matt Ryan's top backup. Atlanta decided to only keep two quarterbacks.

The Browns have released Grossman, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Grossman was never in the Browns' starting conversation to begin with, and the team will thus roll with a QB duo of Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel.

Grossman may sit out Monday's preseason game against the Redskins, the Akron Beacon Journal reports. The veteran signed with Cleveland this past week and figures to serve a mentoring role as the third quarterback behind Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel. Although he's familiar with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's system, Grossman will likely watch from the sidelines Monday as South Carolina product Connor Shaw takes the third-team reps.

Grossman signed with the Browns on Tuesday, Cleveland.com reports. Grossman joins the Browns after spending the past five seasons in Washington working with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Although both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel will continue to compete for Cleveland's starting quarterback job, Grossman is expected to mentor both and help tutor them through Shanahan's offensive scheme. In a corresponding move, the Browns opted to release quarterback Tyler Thigpen on Tuesday.

The Giants have not expressed any interest in free agent Rex Grossman. With Eli Manning out six weeks following ankle surgery, the Giants are looking to add a veteran quarterback for OTAs. Free agents Josh Freeman and Matt Flynn are scheduled for workouts next week, but Grossman isn't on their radar. Grossman is widely expected to sign with the Browns before their April 29 minicamp.

Coach Mike Pettine says the Browns plan to sign a veteran quarterback before their April 29 minicamp. The Browns are pleased with Brian Hoyer's ACL recovery, but he may not be a full-go by late April, and YouTube star Alex Tanney is the only other quarterback on Cleveland's offseason roster. We expect the Browns to sign Rex Grossman, who has been following OC Kyle Shanahan around the NFL for a half-decade.

CBS Sports expects the Browns to sign free agent QB Rex Grossman. After losing out on Matt Schaub, Grossman is the next best option as a sounding board for whomever the Browns employ at quarterback. Grossman has plenty of experience in OC Kyle Shanahan's offense and would be nothing more than a veteran to bounce questions off of for Brian Hoyer and company.

ESPN Cleveland suggests free agent QB Rex Grossman as a target for the Browns. Grossman has spent the past five seasons -- one in Houston and the last four in Washington -- with new Browns OC Kyle Shanahan. The only quarterback that appears to be safe in Cleveland is Brian Hoyer. Shanahan liked to keep three quarterbacks while with the Redskins, so he could team Grossman up with Hoyer and a rookie. Grossman wouldn't be a candidate to start.

Rex Grossman completed 8-of-14 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills. Grossman started and played into the second quarter before being relieved by Pat White. The 11-year veteran made some nice throws, but he was lucky he didn't have a pick-six added to his stat line. Grossman threw a lame duck to Aldrick Robinson, but Bills CB Stephon Gilmore dropped the ball. Through three preseason games, Grossman has completed 28-of-51 passes (54.9 percent) for 396 yards (7.8 YPA), three touchdowns, and an interception.

CSN Washington believes the Redskins are considering carrying just two quarterbacks this season. Reporter Rich Tandler takes the presence of four tight ends and kickoff specialist John Potter as a sign that coach Mike Shanahan may be prepared to go forward with only Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins under center. That would be a risky proposition considering RGIII's health, but would leave Rex Grossman as the odd man out. Although he's one of Shanahan's favorite players, Grossman didn't attempt a single pass in 2012.
