The veteran could definitely warrant playing time during the regular season should injuries and his play pick up.

Scandrick's presence on the Kansas City roster made David Amerson expendable, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Amerson did himself no favors with a poor showing this preseason, but he might have stuck around anyway if the Chiefs hadn't added Scandrick, who could be in the mix for regular snaps as the team's nickelback. Steven Nelson and Kendall Fuller likely will be the starting cornerbacks.

Scandrick may still end up on a 53-man roster for Week 1, as his experience playing the slot could lead to interest from teams in need of a nickelback or dimeback. He was bothered by back spasms at the beginning of training camp, but he seems to be healthy now.

Scandrick's back spasms are not believed to be of the serious magnitude but anything back-related is always wise to keep an eye on. Expect Washington to play this one particularly safe not willing to risk losing Scandrick for an extended period of time. In the meantime, Quinton Dunbar will take over Scandrick's duties at corner during his temporary absence.
