Tolbert (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

EDGE Analysis

Tolbert's lack of availability for the contest isn't a surprise after he failed to practice Wednesday through Friday. His absence leaves Travaris Cadet as the lone healthy running back behind starter LeSean McCoy.

Tolbert (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Tolbert has one more chance to hit the practice field this week, but if he is unable to go Sunday against the Chargers, Travaris Cadet would be in line to serve as LeSean McCoy's top backup this weekend.

Tolbert has a hamstring injury and did not practice Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

EDGE Analysis

Between the injury and the lack of production -- he's averaging just 5.0 rushing yards per game over the last three weeks -- Tolbert's value is far beneath what it was entering the season, when it was thought that he might serve as a goal-line and short-yardage option.

Tolbert carried two times for minus-2 yards during Sunday's blowout loss to the Saints. He also caught both of his targets for 17 yards.

EDGE Analysis

Tolbert hasn't passed 20 yards from scrimmage in any of the last three games, as the Bills continue to rely almost exclusively on a healthy LeSean McCoy. There was originally some promise that Tolbert might get most of the goal-line work this season, but he's been shut out of the end zone from Week 2 on, both in the running and passing games.

Tolbert carried the ball four times for 14 yards and caught one pass for minus-2 yards during Sunday's win over the Raiders.

EDGE Analysis

The Bills finally have their run game working again, but they're also going to ride LeSean McCoy for most of the carries, as he's toted the rock 50 times over the last two games. Making matters worse, the Bills are keeping McCoy in near the end zone, as Tolbert's teammate now has three rushing scores the last two games after not having one for the first five games. Tolbert remains nothing more than insurance should McCoy get hurt.

Tolbert rushed for 29 yards on three carries and added a one-yard catch in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Buccaneers.

EDGE Analysis

The four touches tied a season low for Tolbert. It shouldn't be a surprise that the Bills rolled with LeSean McCoy during his two-touchdown performance, but it's also part of a trend for Tolbert as he's seen fewer touches week-to-week in three consecutive games now. The burly back has been consistently so-so since his 11-carry outing against Denver in Week 3, accumulating between 30 and 35 yards per game. He has not scored since Week 1 and saw just 10 offensive snaps on Sunday.

Tolbert rushed for 16 yards on three carries and added three catches for 18 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to Cincinnati.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran is continuing to get mount touches in his fullback/halfback hybrid role, with at least six touches in four out of five games to start the season. During that span, a pattern has emerged with Tolbert averaging 10.7 touches per game in wins and five per game in losses. Tolbert's role is putting teams to bed while Buffalo nurses leads, a job that isn't consistent week to week. Tolbert might vulture a touchdown here and there, but isn't quite starting material.

Tolbert rushed eight times for 31 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game during Sunday's 23-17 win over Atlanta.

EDGE Analysis

With LeSean McCoy topping 100 yards from scrimmage after struggling over the previous two weeks, Tolbert was relegated back to a secondary role. Tolbert serves as both the fullback and backup running back, but is a touchdown-dependent play given his lack of volume. The powerful runner has found pay dirt once on 36 touches through four games with the Bills.

Tolbert rushed for 41 yards on 11 carries in Sunday's 26-16 win over Denver.

EDGE Analysis

With star back LeSean McCoy frustrated by Denver's swarming defense, Buffalo's coaching staff decided to go heavy and ram Tolbert up the gut. The strategy was especially effective late in the game as Buffalo sought to eat the clock. That sort of "finisher" role seems to be Tolbert's job in Buffalo. In two wins, Tolbert has tallied 24 touches and a score. In the team's lone loss, playing from behind, Tolbert barely got into the action. It might thus be wise to consider the opposing offense, as well as opposing defense, when considering what to do with Tolbert on a given week.

Tolbert compiled five yards on three carries and reeled in his sole pass for two yards during Sunday's 9-3 loss at Carolina.

EDGE Analysis

Tolbert does most of his damage in the red zone as a goal-line vulture, but the Bills didn't pass midfield until the first minute of the third quarter and only incurred as deep as the Panthers' 27-yard line in Week 2. As a result, his bull-dozing style didn't come into play against the organization that employed him the past five seasons. With the similarly staunch Broncos coming to town next Sunday, Tolbert will likely find the going tough for the second game in a row.
