Stanford (ankle) was released by the Jets on Friday, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

EDGE Analysis

After receiving a promotion from the Jets' practice squad to the active roster last October, Stanford ultimately finished the 2016 campaign with 22 tackles to his name across nine game appearances. However, he ended the season on injured reserve due to an ankle injury and will likely need to prove he's back to full strength before finding a new home ahead of training camp.

Stanford has been signed from the Jets' practice squad, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

EDGE Analysis

Stanford will look to provide depth to a thin linebacker corps for the Jets. Erin Henderson is likely out for the year after being placed on the NFI and Darron Lee remains sidelined with an ankle injury, so Stanford could see some immediate action in Sunday's matchup against the Ravens.

Jaguars OLB Julian Stanford has reportedly "turned some heads" during offseason workouts.

A undrafted free agent in 2012, Stanford will compete with Geno Hayes for a starting job in training camp. The Florida Times-Union considers Stanford and LaRoy Reynolds strong candidates for the 53-man roster.

Jaguars undrafted rookie LB Julian Stanford could be forced to start at strong-side linebacker.

Stanford was signed as an undrafted rookie out of Wagner in May, and the Jags' normal SLB Daryl Smith has missed the first six games of the season with a groin injury. Smith didn't practice on Wednesday and doesn't look set to return for Week 8 against the Packers. Kyle Bosworth has been starting in Smith's place, but Stanford has been a special teams standout and his defensive snaps have increased each week.
