Evans has fully recovered from a foot injury suffered during minicamp, Florida Today reports. The safety recorded an interception in Thursday's preseason loss to the Bears. In competition for a starting spot, a position he held for 11 games last season, Evans made an impact Thursday, picking off a Jimmy Clausen pass that was tipped by Telvin Smith. He returned the pick eight yards and also recorded a solo tackle on the night. Evans will continue to battle Winston Guy for a primary role as the preseason wears on.

Jaguars S Josh Evans (foot) is not expected back until training camp. The exact nature of Evans' injury is unknown. He'll fall a nose behind Winston Guy in their battle for the starting free safety gig. Jaguars coaches have been talking up both players.

Josh Evans and Winston Guy are expected to compete for the Jaguars' starting free safety job. Evans, a sixth-round pick in last year's draft, started 11 games as a rookie, notching 58 tackles and one pass breakup. He didn't show much of a nose for the ball. Guy was claimed off waivers from Seattle prior to Week 1 and appeared in 14 games, making two starts. He has plus size at 6-foot-1 and 218 pounds. Guy is a big hitter. The Jaguars talked up Evans following the season.

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell indicated the team is pleased with 2013 sixth-round FS Josh Evans returning as a 2014 starter. Caldwell specifically said upgrading free safety will not be an offseason priority. Evans finished his rookie year with 58 tackles and no turnovers forced among 11 starts, grading out 78th among 86 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' safety ratings. Fellow rookie SS Johnathan Cyprien graded 84th, but Jacksonville is betting on internal improvement for both in 2014.

Jaguars FS Josh Evans has been ruled out for Week 14. Winston Guy will start Thursday's game against the Texans. A sixth-round rookie who's started 9-of-12 games this season, Evans is week to week. He has 12 days to heal up for Week 15.

Jaguars FS Josh Evans (shoulder) is "very questionable" for Thursday's game against the Texans. The sixth-round rookie has started 9-of-12 games this season, grading out as a bottom-five safety in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Winston Guy will get the start if Evans can't go for Week 14.

Jaguars sixth-round S Josh Evans could push Dwight Lowery for the starting free safety job. Lowery has 39 career starts under his belt, but Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell has been high on Evans. Jacksonville reportedly had Evans just below No. 33 pick Johnathan Cyprien on their draft board. At this point, there's no reason to expect Lowery to lose the starting job. Evans figures to be primarily a special teamer as a rookie.

Jaguars signed sixth-round S Josh Evans to a four-year contract. The No. 169 overall pick, Evans bookended Ravens first-round S Matt Elam in the defensive backfield at Florida. He has extensive special teams experience, and that's likely where he'll see most of his action as a rookie.

The Jaguars claim they "really liked" safety Josh Evans and would have drafted him as early as the third-round. General Manager David Caldwell says Evans was the "next guy that we were really targeting," if they missed out on Johnathan Cyprien, and the team would have taken Evans "in the third." This is the second time Caldwell has talked up Evans during the offseason, but the rookie remains unlikely to contribute outside of special teams this year.
