Coach Mike Munchak seconded what OC Dowell Loggains said last month that Jake Locker could be asked to use his legs more in 2013. "We are going to have a lot more things for Jake. ... You want defenses to worry about those types of things," Munchak said. "But maybe we wouldn't do it to the degree you have seen other teams do it, because I don't know if the quarterback can hold up doing that." Locker has already been injury-prone throughout his two seasons, and subjecting him to more hits might not be the best idea. However, he does possess the athleticism.

Coach Mike Munchak confirmed that Ryan Fitzpatrick will not be competing for the starting job. "Ryan will know his role. Ryan's been in this situation before. He knows that Jake is going to be the guy," Munchak said. The coach went on to say that since Locker is a running quarterback, there's a "chance" that the No. 2 quarterback is going to play a lot. Locker missed five games last season and was limited in a few others due to shoulder woes. He has "got to stay healthy," Munchak said. "That was probably the biggest problem last year. It was hard to judge him."

Jake Locker doesn't believe his struggles are an "issue of accuracy." Locker made waves in a Thursday radio interview when he suggested he wasn't worried about his completion percentage. "It's just understanding the situations you're in, when you can take checkdowns, when you can force it down the field," Locker said. "Those are things that can improve the completion percentage, rather than just overall accuracy and missing throws. So I think it's just understanding the game a little more." However he wants to frame it, Locker needs to complete more passes in 2013.

Jake Locker once again brushed off concerns about his questionable accuracy. The Titans certainly didn't help Locker out with questionable scheming, poor pass protection and dropped passes. But he completed just 56.4 percent of his throws last year, compared to 62.4 for Matt Hasselbeck. Accuracy questions have plagued him since college. "It is terrible and doesn't seem to be improving," Bill Williamson of Scouts Inc. said. "All the ability in the world, but it is seldom that QBs become more accurate at the NFL level." It's new OC Dowell Loggains chief priority this offseason to get Locker settled down in the playbook.

Jake Locker (shoulder surgery) remains on track to be ready for offseason workouts in June. Locker underwent surgery to repair his twice-dislocated non-throwing shoulder in early-January. He'll get a full offseason in with new OC Dowell Loggains and will be ready for contact well before training camp. Getting Locker comfortable in the scheme is a priority after a skittish sophomore season.

Titans OC Dowell Loggains plans to explore using read-option concepts this offseason in an effort to improve Jake Locker. It's a sensible move to perhaps kickstart Locker, who either flatlined or regressed in 2012 depending on your perception of his seemingly promising 2011 spot appearances. Loggains will study Robert Griffin III and Russell Wilson, keeping "an open mind" regarding his own athletic quarterback. "We're going to do just like every team in the league and look at clubs like Seattle and Washington," Loggains said. "We're still very early in the process of building this offense, but we're definitely gonna look at all that stuff."

Jake Locker (shoulder surgery) does not expect to miss any team activities this offseason. Locker underwent surgery two weeks ago to repair his twice dislocated left (non-throwing) shoulder. "Everything went like they hoped it would," he said. "I feel great, I'm feeling awesome, really. ... I'm supposed to make a full recovery and have a strong shoulder." Locker seems to have a chance to be ready for June minicamps.

Jake Locker underwent left shoulder surgery Wednesday, and the Titans "hope" he'll be ready to return by May. The operation was announced at the Titans' season-ending press conference. Locker is one player desperately in need of a full offseason, so it will be bad news if he isn't ready for June's minicamp. However, he should be 100 percent for training camp. Locker is surrounded by intriguing skill-position talent, but it's hard to envision him rising above middle-of-the-pack QB2 status in 2013.

The Titans plan to reduce the number of option routes in their passing game for 2013. Under fired OC Chris Palmer, receivers made route choices at the line of scrimmage based on reads. According to head coach Mike Munchak, that made Locker play slower. "You get into some bad habits, and that takes a while to develop," Munchak said. Locker ended up with just 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 11 games in 2012. He has nowhere to go but up as the Titans continue their search for a new offensive coordinator.

Coach Mike Munchak stood behind Jake Locker at Monday's year-ending presser, saying the Titans will work to find an offensive coordinator and QBs coach capable of helping Locker "develop." Munchak didn't rule out the possibility of Tom Moore coordinating the Titans' 2013 offense with Dowell Loggains returning to quarterbacks coach. It sounds like Tennessee is standing behind Locker as its starter for next season despite his disappointing 2012 campaign and an offseason that may be mostly lost due to left shoulder surgery. Locker is still due back by training camp.
