Free agent Jahvid Best's concussion-related lawsuit against the NFL has been dismissed. Best was also suing helmet-makers Riddell and Easton-Bell Sports. Best can apparently refile the lawsuit, but it's unclear if he will do so. Best spent 2013 as a student assistant coach at his alma mater Cal. Although he's still only 25, his NFL career is through.

Free agent Jahvid Best is suing the NFL, alleging the league "knew about the risks of head injuries suffered by players, but didn't do enough to protect them." Best is also suing helmet-maker Riddell. Best suffered three-known concussions during his two-year NFL career, the last of which ostensibly ended his playing days in October 2011. The suit is a clear sign he's officially given up on playing again even though he's only 24. A Cal graduate, Best is joining the Golden Bears' coaching staff for 2014.

Free agent Jahvid Best has enrolled back in school at Cal and will join the Golden Bears' football coaching staff as a student assistant. Best's playing days are believed to be over due to concussions. He can't find any doctors to clear him. Lions KR/WR Jeremy Ross recently said he thinks Best is going to get back into track; Best was a sprinter in high school and college. For now, Best plans to complete his degree and get his feet wet in coaching.

Lions KR Jeremy Ross told the Detroit Free Press in December that he believes free agent Jahvid Best is done with football. Debilitated by concussions, Best was waived last July and hasn't been picked up for a look-see. "I think he told me he was going to try and do some track, get into some track workouts and maybe potentially do the track thing," Ross said of Best, a decorated high school and college sprinter. Best, 25, has not responded to media requests for interviews in recent months.

USA Today's Tom Pelissero reports ex-Lions RB Jahvid Best hasn't given up on resuming his career, but is "not cleared at this point." Best was waived in July, more than 21 months after his most recent snap. Best is still only 24, but the fact is, no NFL team is going to medically clear a player with his concussion history. Best should give up the ghost at some point in the near future.

According to the National Football Post's Len Pasquarelli, there is "suspicion in some quarters" that free agent Jahvid Best (concussions) will continue to meet with brain specialists and try to resume his career. Best hasn't played football since October 2011 and still "possesses residual effects" from his five documented concussions. Pasquarelli believes the "likelihood" remains Best will end up retiring. Best is still only 24 years old.

Lions waived RB Jahvid Best. It's a move nearly two years in the making. Best hasn't played since suffering his most recent concussion on Oct. 16, 2011, and only remained on the roster as a good faith gesture so he could continue to accrue time toward his NFL pension. Best said in March that he's "never giving up hope" of playing again, but his career is essentially over. Still only 24, Best was the 30th pick of the 2010 draft.

Jahvid Best (concussions) reportedly isn't even taking neurological tests anymore. Best's NFL career is essentially over. The Lions are keeping him on the roster as a good-faith gesture toward an employee who was injured on the job. Best continues to accrue time in the NFL's pension program even though he hasn't played since Week 6 of the 2011 season.

GM Martin Mayhew says Jahvid Best (concussions) is not participating in the offseason program right now. This comes as no surprise. Best has repeatedly said that he plans to play football again, but the odds are against him ever being cleared medically. The Lions may consider shelving Best on PUP for a second-straight season. He has two years left on his contract.

Lions GM Martin Mayhew says he'll consider stashing Jahvid Best (concussions) on PUP for the entire 2013 season. The Lions did the same with Best last year. The approach would give Best more time to recover, and the club a chance to activate him after six games in case Best receives medical clearance. Best has stated repeatedly that he hopes to continue his football career. The Lions see no reason to cut him in the meantime.
