Wally's World - Week 4 fantasysharks.com Mon 9/22/14 1:06 AM

Another crazy Sunday of NFL action is in the books. The ball was flying all over the field in Philadelphia creating some excellent performances and the Cowboys and Rams gave us some fun as well. For the sake of full disclosure I must admit that these games were watched through a ‘Dayquil' induced haze. Yes, yours truly has a wicked cold and these are the things that caught my sneezy watery eyes for week three. Have to think that tight end Niles Paul has earned a bigger role in the Washington offense even when Jordan Reed returns. The Norv Turner effect doesn't seem to have taken hold with Kyle Rudolph in Minnesota and now he's dealing with a groin issue. The best news out of the debacle that was Tampa Bay's loss to the Falcons was that QB Josh McCown injured his throwing hand. I am not and will never be a fantasy owner (or writer) that wishes injury upon players but McCown was simply inept. Mike Glennon at the helm for the Buccaneers keeps wideouts Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans worth hanging on to for fantasy purposes. Despite losing a pair of fumbles the running back I want from Tampa Bay moving forward for fantasy purposes is Bobby Rainey. He has explosiveness and big play capability that I just don't see in Doug Martin anymore. Even though the Lions won a big game this week, Matthew Stafford looks a bit off. Lots of accuracy issues that need to be corrected. Luckily Stafford was playing against a surprisingly ineffective Aaron Rodgers this week. It's too early to panic regarding Rodgers but he should have been better against a tattered Detroit secondary. OK. The jury is in and Toby Gerhart is not a fantasy-worthy player moving forward. That offense is really struggling right now and the defense is allowing opponents to jump out to big leads rendering any rushing attack moot. Who had week three as when the rest (Derek Carr has been playing) rookie quarterbacks would emerge in the office pool? While neither Blake Bortles or Teddy Bridgewater lit the world on fire, they didn't embarrass themselves either. Both will have better days ahead and deserve to start from here on out. Nick Foles racked up some serious fantasy points this week and will feel every one of them Monday morning. That kid took a pounding. Stashing Mark Sanchez right about now would be a good idea for Foles owners. By the time Ben Tate returns from injury (possibly following the Week 4 bye) it will likely be Isaiah Crowell that is his primary backup. Crowell looks quicker and more efficient than Terrance West and just needs to work on pass protection to secure the role. Wise move by Kansas City to sit Jamaal Charles Sunday even though he practiced late in the week. No reason to possibly risk a more severe injury when you have a fine back up like Knile Davis to step in. Speaking of Davis I really like the kid but he needs to take better care of the ball. I feel like it was fumbling issues that cost Bryce Brown the prime backup gig in Philadelphia and ultimately led to his departure there. Safety Tony Jefferson in Arizona is quietly having a nice season and is a good IDP pickup heading into the Cardinals' bye week. They have a date with the Denver Broncos in week five. Well hello there Lamar Miller! Very nice to see him play well in a regular season game. Tom Brady just doesn't look like...well, Tom Brady anymore. The Patriots barely handled the Raiders at home. The Raiders! I really like Kirk Cousins against the Giants this Thursday night at home. Yeah, I like him just fine. A hamstring injury for Arian Foster keeps him out this week? Really? S omebody get the proverbial feather out and knock me over with it. At least it gave thousands od Twitter users the chance to tweet "You're my boy Blue!" And they did. Who didn't see that big week for Joe McKnight (Chiefs) coming? Oh, right. Everyone. Don't chase the points people...don't chase. They may be losing games but the Dolphins have found a real nice linebacker in youngster Jelani Jenkins. He needs to be owned in all IDP formats if he's somehow not already. Detroit linebacker DeAndre Levy was a bit of a late bloomer but has become a solid LB2 with big play potential. Levy's numbers may expand even more if Stephen Tulloch misses extended time with his injured knee. Yes, the knee he injured celebrating. It's the Lions folks. What can I say? So Drew Stanton beat Colin Kaepernick today. Sounds about right for the way this season has started. It was the tale of two veterans for the 49ers as wide receiver Stevie Johnson had a big day and Frank Gore was non-existent. I'm not overreacting to either performance as the Cardinals defense plays the run tough and Johnson isn't likely to be targeted this much next week. If you are only going to catch one pass you may as well make it count, eh, Allen Hurns? This kid just keeps making plays and I like the way he's fought through an ankle injury to keep contributing. Keep an eye on linebacker Anthony Hitchens in Dallas folks. He saw extended playing time with Rolando McClain out this week and performed well. Wow! Feels like we got a glimpse of the Super Bowl we could have had. Kudos to the Broncos for making this one an exciting game to watch! We could see this one again, people. Lorenzo Taliaferro has certainly thrown his name into the conversation as to who the number one running back in Baltimore should be. He was hard to tackle and showed very nice burst. Those two things are rarely mentioned when talking about Bernard Pierce. In Miami, Ryan Tannehill doesn't appear to be getting better. Accuracy issues and a very balky offense will make it hard to trot him out there as a fantasy starting option. Even against Oakland next week, I'd be looking for other options. Pittsburgh wide receiver Antonio Brown is flat out fun to watch. He does it all and catches nearly everything thrown his way. Without a running game of any kind there is no way Cam Newton stays on the field consistently (and not just being pulled in blowout losses). He's forced to throw way too much and is taking too much punishment. Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount carved up the vaunted Carolina Panthers front seven pretty good Sunday night. That bodes well for Pittsburgh moving forward. Travis Kelce has worked himself into the conversation of tight ends that are weekly starts. Don't look now but that Derek Anderson to Kelvin Benjamin hookup for Carolina has struck again!
