Cam Newton vs. Tony Romo So, you missed out on those top-tier quarterbacks and even a few more after that, odds are you'll be staring at one of these two quarterbacks to keep you in contention for the title. Cam Newton is awesome! He has all the skills and intangibles that make a fantastic quarterback. Unfortunately, you have to look at those tangibles, too. Newton has little-to-no help around him. After losing Steve Smith, Ted Ginn, Domenik Hixon and Brandon LaFell, the Panthers have few receivers left that produced much of anything in 2013. The backfield takes up a lot of the salary cap, and unless DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart have a miracle year, it still won't be worth it. First-round pick Kelvin Benjamin will draw some attention from opposing defenses and will be a small flicker of hope in this revamped receiving corps but won't be able to keep that extra coverage away from proven commodity Greg Olsen. Speaking of great tight ends, Jason Witten is pretty darn good and has shown little decline in the past few seasons. Tony Romo will target him in the red zone more often than he did in 2012. Terrance Williams is set for a breakout season after the departure of Miles Austin. Oh, and did I mention that elite wide receiver Dez Bryant plays for Dallas? Secondly, let's not forget that offensive line! Dallas has one of the best, if not the best line in the NFL and only allowed 35 sacks last year. That's impressive considering Romo's not that mobile. Newton can run like a demon, but bit the turf 43 times, and that was with three-time Pro Bowler Jordan Gross at left tackle, who is now retired. Newton produced comparable passing stats to Kansas City's Alex Smith last year, but you don't see anybody reaching for him in their fantasy drafts. When it's all said and done, Tony Romo ends up a top 10 quarterback every year. Will he throw a game-ending interception in the final minutes of a big game? Most likely. But at least he has people to throw to. Pick Romo...Not Newton Kyle Rudolph vs. Jordan Cameron There is an air of change in Cleveland and Minnesota this year. With new coaches and the quarterback position in disarray, who knows what will happen? If you missed out on Jimmy Graham, Jordan Cameron may be the second tight end taken off the board (or at least be in the discussion). Cameron is being selected around the sixth round in most mock drafts while Kyle Rudolph is still on the board for several more rounds. This makes perfect sense. Cameron blew up last year with 80 catches for 917 yards and seven touchdowns (literally more than double what Rudolph produced). There's no reason to believe he can't do it again. On the other hand... Josh Gordon's off-field problems may have destroyed any chance of a stellar repeat season for Jordan Cameron. Gordon drew tons of attention from opposing secondaries last year. His numbers were borderline ridiculous. If, or should I say when, Gordon gets suspended for the majority of the year, who is going to take that attention? The rest of the receiving corps is mediocre at best. Injury prone Miles Austin is the only player that might perform fairly well. This will cause extra focus to be turned in Cameron's direction, decreasing his overall stat line. Kyle Rudolph , luckily, will have Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Jennings and the overpowering Adrian Peterson to garnish all the attention. So, what is the thing that Rudolph has as his secret weapon? Offensive coordinator Norv Turner! This man single-handedly put tight ends like Jordan Cameron, Randy McMichael and Antonio Gates on the map. By creating mismatches with these speedy former basketball players, Turner was able to make these tight ends pass-catching machines. Rudolph, a former basketball center, will be no different. So don't take a tight end in the sixth round, wait a few rounds and get the same value. Pick Rudolph...Not Cameron. Thanks for reading!
