Dwyer is listed as the Cardinals' No. 2 running back in advance of Monday's opener against the Chargers, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. Other than a goal-line plunge for a touchdown during the second preseason game, Dwyer didn't outshine Stepfan Taylor, and vice versa. Overall, Dwyer took 14 carries for 24 yards (1.7 YPC), while Taylor was handed 22 totes for 43 yards (2.0) and caught one ball for 11 yards. Perhaps coach Bruce Arians prefers Dwyer's size (5-11, 229) when a tough yard or three is required. In any case, Dwyer is slated to give Andre Ellington a rest whenever one is required in Week 1 and beyond.
